Completely off topic (and I'll admit it's getting late on a Saturday night and I've had a couple of reds) I just came across this poem by Banjo Patterson, Australia's best known poet. It's a bit long but I think worth a listen:

Sorry, I just did :-)

For the benefit of anyone still following this saga here is the original image the crops were taken from:

The bottom one is the Nikon. If you didn't compare them side by side you'd be hard pressed to pick them...which is one reason why I did the test.

This may sound counterintuitive but the picture results is not the only criteria to decide which camera is better. The other factors are how the camera feels in your hands, the weight and ruggedness. These are certainly part of the process to make a dent to your dilemma. If you vacillate too long, you will probably crave to buy the newer models anyway.

Yes of course you're right. In my particular case I can think of a few things off the top of my head where the Nikon excels:

1) OVF is far superior to the EVF (though by most mirrorless standards it's pretty good)
2) Focussing speed and accuracy are superior
3) The cost of long telephoto lenses is very low by comparison (purchased s/h) and the range is extensive
4) Handling (and I concede this is a very personal thing)
5) Far superior battery life
6) Touch screen has much more functionality
7) ISO 64

X-T3

1) Weight 975gm vs 1207gm (which isn't such a big deal and would be even closer if I installed a grip with another couple of batteries to get closer to the Nikon's range)
2) Yes it's smaller but not that much smaller to make a real difference
3) Focus assist. You have this as well on the Nikon but it only works in LiveView, not through the viewfinder
4) Video. Miles in front

If that is the case, then mirrorless vs DSLR is not the issue, sensor and lens is, from my amateur understanding. The question makes no sense. Once light hits the sensor, through the lens, then how that light gets there has nothing to do with the operating mechanics.

The light finally comes on. That's what I've been saying all along...

Your end photographs have no real meaning for me.

I wasn't really intending to convey meaning, they are simply a comparison in output from two cameras used in similar circumstances. One is better (higher resolution) than the other. If you wanted to create your best work which would you choose based on IQ?

Agree. Useless exercise

Can you really not see the difference between the two by just looking at the screenshots? Why do you need the EXIF data?

The one with the higher resolution is the Nikon.

I don't think jean's would do well in a pool. Might shrink like your comparison between these two cameras.

Depends on whether you plan to send just a toaster or toaster oven. I personally like the toaster ovens as they are much more versatile. I particularly like the Live View feature so you can see how your toast looks as it cooks. Of course in-toaster light settings and the natural lighting will affect how well you can see the resolution of your toast. And don't forget that you need to keep the glass panel really clean to see the best output you can expect. I generally like my toast SOT, without any special settings and post toast processing.
Good luck with your gift selection!

Another one we hope isn't contributing to the gene pool...

Every now and again you get a reply that indicates a degree of intelligence. Sadly this isn't one of them...

Sometimes I get a narrow gauge O-ring right at the crevice between the the ring and the barrel. It should be just fat enuf to not irretrievably sink down into the crevice. You can still use the control ring but it won’t be nearly as loose.

The more I read this the more it sounds like a conversation between two gay men. Now don't get me wrong I have no problem with that but I think it's funny...

Agree?

The sharpest one... though sharp is probably the wrong term because it implies the 'less' sharp one was out of focus. Probably the more correct description would be the one with the higher resolution.

Can't you tell?
