The reason, I fell backwards on some slippery ground, and tried to save the camera and lens. the Lens took a knock, and its in a repair shop waiting for the insurance company to make its mind up. the Old one was bought in 2005. really cant fault the lens
Hope this helps

this is the last image taken with the lens moments after, I had a very poorly lens
I used Pentax K10D Gripped, Kenko 1,5x Teleconverter plus the 50-500mm Sigma Lens

Yep, I was wrong; Sigma DOES have a new version of that lens; 50-500 4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM; $2450.00.
Hi, I have both the old Bigma and the New Bigma, the difference is the New one is a tad lighter its also longer and takes a 95mm Filter.
I dont use AF or a tripod and have never had any trouble with the pictures, have a look at some of my images as they were taken with the older of the two lens. One thing I will mention, get a battery grip it gives added balance to the extra length of the lens.
I got the 50-500 F4.5-6.3 APO DG OS from http://www.srsmicrosystems.co.uk/
they usually have deals on I bought this lens for £800, when all the other shops were asking £1300.
One other problem I have found is that the old 50-500 lens I could use the Kenko 1.5x and or the 2x teleconverter and they worked well together, Not so the New lens only works with the Sigma teleconverter ( I use a Pentax K10D, Gripped)
Hope this helps

I envy what you have in the states, my sister in law just came back from a trip to Yellow Stone, all I can say, Green with envy. I have to make do with the wildlfe in the UK, cant afford the trip over the pond.
Scotland I would say is the best place in the whole of the UK for wildlife, Landscape and the Scots are great hosts.

I love all 3 photo's But the 3rd one is incredible. I was over in England, Ireland, and Scotland a couple months ago and noticed those birds around the coast. Are they like the USA version of the seagull? Nice shots
The Gulls in the UK, are found just about anywhere from the sea to rubbish dumps. Whereas Gannets are more visible around the coast in breeding season
