I recently bought a multicard reader from Walmart that included Smartmedia and X-D format ports. $16 or so.

Cindy, a lot of people not familiar with our state do not understand the back handed, under the table political and bureaucratic shenanigans that are going on here to try and restrict the public from our lands. If indeed it is strictly a motor vehicle restriction to the road and they do abound, the debris on the road was quite possibly intentional by the contractor. Maybe because the contractor owns quads, side by sides, etc. that can't be used there then nobody else is going to be able to use it either. Childish, immature and illegal if that is the case. Only the Forest Service office can answer you as to if it truly is only motor vehicle that are banned from that road. With the way the wild fires have been in recent years, I would think they would be interested to know that access for emergency crews has been blocked as well.

I learned a lot on Pentax 35mm equipment and got some fantastic photographs. No reason to leave that choice out of the equation with a bonus of lower cost compared to Canon and Nikon. In addition, it sounds like he is experienced enough to 'know' the Pentax menu. I moved from Pentax to Canon for DSLR because "that is what the big boys use." I wish I hadn't been taken by that hype. I have the Canon 18-55 lens and was terribly unhappy with its soft focus. I had to jump up to an L lens in the Canon line to get close to the sharpness I was looking for. I have bought used on Ebay and set a limit for myself that the users must have at least 500 positive feedback responses and haven't been disappointed there yet. It may take patience with the bidding process to get what you want at the price you want it.

To me it would depend on whether you have a crop frame body or a full frame body. I would use a wider lens with the crop frame than I would if I had a full frame.

[quote=swartfort]Not sure your distance, or time of day, but here is what I would try:

Manual with auto ISO

Shutter speed 1250 to catch the smoke and flamed crisply

Aperture probably 9 or 10, to get some depth of field

I will preface by saying I am not trying to argue but I am curious; do you think you need to close the aperture down at all? The safety range for launches is measured in miles not feet so at 1 mile distant safety range my DoF calculator tells me at f9 the DoF begins more than 4,000 feet in front of the object that is focused on. At f2 the DoF begins just over 2,200 in front of the object. I release the OPs lens is probably not an F2 lens but my point being to open up the aperture so they can up the shutter speed to fight blur and lower the ISO to reduce noise.

I would crop tighter but then an instructor of mine told me I crop too tightly. I would pose her on his left so when she turns towards him, her left hand with the ring is forward towards the photographer. It doesn't have to be blaringly obvious as if she is giving the viewer the finger but it can be displayed naturally. If the backgrounds and settings are of the couples choosing, they are the ones that have to live with it, not me. Good to see the fence post was not growing from either of them. You could even experiment with different points of view from very low to up on a step ladder.

I had a Sony P&S that would not function with anything non-Sony. Batteries, memory, etc.

Yeah, he's cute, but where do I go from here?

If that is not a rhetorical question, a google search of "how to take photographs" or looking on the Kodak website will have A LOT of tutorials and lessons about the 'science' of photography, the exposure triangle and such. Then comes applying the science to make it art. A lot of the questions like: how did you make the light on that object or animal, look like that? will be answered.

Happy shooting

Great photos even with the semi-silhouette-ing. I think that adds a different appeal to them.

I have had glasses for 40 years now. Early on I tried the then version of Transitions and once they went dark, then never went completely clear again for me. My next alternative was using the clip on shaded lenses and they were easier all the way around. Put them on outside, take them off inside and easier to lose. When manufacturers started actually matching the frames they were making the clips looked better also. Most recently, I wait until the optician has a sale for 'buy one, get one cheaper' type thing and buy matching frames in both tinted and non-tinted lenses. Adds one more thing in the camera bag but I have my sunglasses when I am not shooting and have my clear lenses when I am.
