Over the summer, on Thursday nights, there's a car meet to bring back the memory of the Asbury Park Circuit of the late 60s/early 70s. These are some cars and motorcycles that have shown up

Thanks everyone!

Every observation, opinion and experience is appreciated. My inclination is to stay with Windows. I've heard "creatives" like Apple better and isn't as susceptible to virus & malware. But the big con is cost. I'm a curious person, so I might embrace the learning curve (as long as it isn't too steep that patience runs out).

I'd like to upgrade the laptop I presently use to edit.

Now the age old question, with the emphasis on longevity. I use adobe CC suite, so as long I have internet, I'm good. So I'm tossed between Windows with 12 - 16 gb of ram, or a MacBook. I'd like to stay with a laptop for portability reasons. I haven't used Apple before, but not opposed to it. So save the Windows vs Apple argument.

So what I'm asking for your experiences. Is a couple of hundred dollar difference worth it? Are there any models you would recommend? If anyone has used both, let me hear your experiences.

I am looking to photograph indoor (and outdoor, again in the late spring & early fall) sports. I am currently shooting High school basketball. I am beginning to realize that a EF 70-300mm 58ᶲ f/4-5.6 is not nearly enough to get good clean photos in manual mode. I can get some while using Sport Mode - but I am not really learning at this point besides blindly experimenting. I presume I will sell the above lens and get a similar with an f/2.8. I am looking for some suggestions while on a budget.

I'm in basically the same boat with a Nikon D7200 and similar lens. Here's what I've found from my experience. I do shoot in sports mode. But I have to do minor post edit, mostly for white balance or cropping for best content. My biggest issue is I find shots out of the frame due to the movement of the action. I started 2 yrs ago with a total budget of $1000. I am fortunate to get on the floor at the end of the court. I stay out of the refs way as much as possible. I have also shot hockey too and always have to post edit for white balance or bring exposure up. I'm finding very quickly, this lens is not the best tool for the job. A 2.8 is a must. Luckily in basketball you can be on the short end of the lens (70ish mm) and be ok. But once you get outside for bigger fields, you will need a longer reach. Especially if you do night games.

I've attached a one of my photos to see what you can get.

My mother was the family photographer. She used a 35mm Bell & Howell. When I graduated college, I was given a 35 mm Olympus, put the expense of film deterred me for almost 25 yrs. First digital camera was a Sony. I don't even remember models etc. Until 2 yrs ago I got my Nikon D7200 to photograph the last few yrs of my sons hockey and my girls high school activities. Now I'm doing some local photojournalism and whatever my eye sees.

I'm hoping to get a few opportunities to make some $$ to step up to full frame and better lenses. I'd like to find a paying hobby.

Nice job!

That 1.8 helps a ton as lighting in rinks is a battle.

People don't realize how diverse NJ is. Mountains to the shore to the cities in about a couple hours or less.

Nice shot!

The photo must be 2"x2" with proper proportion and rules. See link above.

To be honest, it's easier to get it done by someone. The are other guidelines to be followed and photos are the #1 reason passport applications are delayed. Most places should not be beyond $20, at most!
