I have many flower pictures stored on my computer. i am having fun attacking all the flowers. If I dont share them who would get to see them. So hang in there while I share some flowers from my yard. Hope you like them. i have so many more so I will share some at a later time. Is there a way to put multiple pictures on one page , instead of one at a time? Some are better than others, and I know i have to work on focus points. I am a work in progress!

Lots of good ideas here. What I would suggest (beyond classes and photo clubs which are great ideas) is to start with manual. I would actually start with manual priority and practice, practice, practice. Start thinking of and checking out depth of field and stop motion and show motion both close and far. It sounds tricky but with some help and lots of practice it will come to you.

Once you feel good with manual then you can fine tune for your preferred shots to aperture and shutter priority which will make it just a little easier and faster. After you get comfortable with that you can also try working with your ISO settings. If you can get even semi-good at these skills you'll be able to do almost anything you want. Of course there are many refinements you may want to try at that point but I'd recommend starting with manual as I advise. It's well worth it and will allow you to enjoy photography that much more. Good luck!

thank you for all the info, I appreciate that. And yes i dont have a really good understanding of photography, but i am learning an want to learn more. There is lot of things i dont undertand about my camera and i want to learn more and master it. I am retired housewife and love taking pictures now, mostly of flowers and scenery. thanks again for the info. I will study it carefully. I do understand what Iso, apature, shutter speed are , just need to learn how they all work together with my camera for a good exposure. I have gotten some really good pictures of flowers with this camera, even winning 3rd place in a contest at or local mall. Needless to say, i was thrilled. When i asked the question, I was playing around with my camera and looking at all the controls and saw one for back lighting, so was wondering if I could use that and still be in Manuel mode. Then i realized that function is under the "Scene" mode and is a choice under that mode but cannot be used with motion, so that is out because i want to capture a hummingbird with a clear image. I wil keep trying for sure

Congrats, Betsy! That makes a great background contrast for the hummingbirds. One tip about answering people in a thread: use the "quote reply" button. IMHO, you're on the right track! I really LIKE the 2 pix that you posted. Your shutter speed looks good, you're showing just a hint of subject movement in the bird's wings. Your pix aren't backlit, but rather nicely out of focus & an unobtrusive mix of shades of gray & green.

Keep up the good work!

Thank you. I changed the angle so the backround is a large evergreen instead of the white house across the street. i will keep practicing

thank you twowindsbear, I changed my approach to the hummer by moving my camera so the white house across the street is not in the backround. I used a tripod with a remote cord and waited for the little bugger to come. I can see the focus is out, but not sure what to do about that - I set the camera up and focused on the test tube, but the hummer is not exactly at that place so maybe i need to hold an object up right n front of the feeder and focus on that? I have trouble hand holding the camera and getting a shot cuz they move so fast by the time i pust the shutter. Do you think i should manuel focus or use the AF? Thank you again for your input

thank you gemeader, I am trying to get a good pic of a hummingbird and i have a setup on my porch that is backlit. My camera has a backlight option i was asking about but in studying it further, it is under the scene mode. But i cannot use that in anything that has motion. But thank you so much for the suggestions,i will try them on hummingbirds. I have till around August when they stop coming here to figure it out. I wil keep trying.

thank you for the suggestion i will definitely check it out. I have watche a few U tube clips on photographing hummers. But I was just questioning the use of the backlight option on my camera. It is under the scene mode and i cannot use it for moving objects. I fugured it out on my own. But I will keep working on getting a good hummer pic.
