I been to Iceland twice, my suggestion grab a map and a car. The photo tours I seen while there are, get out of vehicle take photo get in and go. Do it on your own, not hard to get around. It’s breathtaking and you can move at your own pace. Take your time with your shots. Once you go you will want to go back.

I’m not knocking the tours, if someone has recommended check them out. I just like doing things at my own pace.

Little tid bit, if you fly Iceland Air you can always do a layover in the future in Iceland say if your flying to England you could make a stop and stay a few days and go to your final destination. You can do a layover for up-to 7 days and doesn’t cost extra for the flight.

This is what I would do. Get an external drive and backup your hard drive. Then replace your hard drive in your MacBook with new hard drive or ssd. I picked an arbitrary drive for a MacBook since I don’t know your specs. https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/S3DAP12RT02/

I second an iPad Pro, been using it for photo processing when on vacation or away from the house. I use LR CC and Classic so your photos are saved on a hard disc, the cloud and iCloud.

16-80 will work. Longer lens if you want to photograph birds. Also check out the butterfly sanctuary.

Hello. I have a question. I have an above average understanding and experience with photography and my question is- Is it "Cheating" to take a picture on Auto to see the best settings the camera would choose for the scene and then adjust my Manual settings to get the look I want?

I usually tend to like the warmer tones and rustic/B&W look. One side of me says that the end goal is to get a good picture that expresses what you see, but the other side says to shoot away.

Why take 10-15 pictures if it can be done in 5?

Any thoughts?

Nothing wrong with how you're doing it. This will give you a start off point, after a while you will just shoot in manual and not even put the camera in auto. You are the one taking the photo and the one with the vision, how you get to the final result doesn't matter as long as you like it.

My 15 yo niece wants to learn photography. Recommendations as to a camera for her?

Any of the pocket cameras would do. They have manual over rides to adjust shutter and aperture. They also allow you to take video. (Looking at a Canon Powershot camera.). Nikon makes a nice bridge camera's, the Coolpix line.

As for learning, does her school have a photography club? Is there a camera club in the area? Maybe a camera shop that does some classes? There are a bunch of on-line courses thru Lynda.com, Masterclasses, and others. Do a Google search.

I have a G4 collecting dust. My late 2009 27 iMac that runs OS X ond Windows 10 was moved to my shop. The graphics card flaked out and it sat for a yr. before I got around to fixing it. This was replaced by a 27" late 2014 Retina Display iMac that runs both Win dows 10 and latest Mac OS.

My stated goals are in conflict but I also want to take my photos to the next level and trying to figure out the software that will help me to do that. I guess I mostly was wondering if folks out there use the Nikon software and if that would be a good place to start. I would like to only take the time to learn one software. I have used I-Photo to edit my photos so I have basic understanding of what to do.

To see if the Nikon software is right for you try it out. It costs nothing since you have a Nikon and get it with the camera. Shoot in Raw and JPEG, develop your Raw file to your liking and compare it to the JPG for a reference point and take it further or dial it back. You can also try LR and Photoshop for 30 days, well worth the money. The only way to learn any of the software is to use it and experiment. Remember the raw image can always be reverted back in any of the products you choose.

I personally would have given the woman some photos. I would have asked her what happened with her camera and offer to take a look at it and help her use it so the next time she has no issue. Ask for her email and send her some photos. This may have been a once in a lifetime trip for her.

How long was the excursion? Where was the cruise just out of curiosity.

Ahha.

I live in Australia, ironically I acquired my Nikon D700 in the US, so
it's a grey camera.

Even though it is "grey", If I had the need to take
it to my local repair centre; the "Camera Clinic" it would be fixed (for a cost)
and I would be confident that the quality
of assembly and adjustment is literally better than brand new... check this out:

Having said that, of course my D700 is a long way out of warranty
and I'm guessing if I took a "grey" Nikon to them that was
otherwise under warranty they would repair it, but one would have to pay
for their outstanding service.

If you bought the camera at an authorized dealer and have the receipts it is not a grey market item. I called Nikonabout this as I was traveling outside the U.S. and wanted to know if I bought a camera, lens etc outside the US would there be an issue if I needed warranty repair. I was told no issue as long as you have the receipts and bought from an authorized distributor/retailer.

I read the whole thread. Adoromma should have rectified the situation the first call, by exchanging the lens for new, sending you a warranty card with all manuals etc, or possibly giving you a square trade warranty. You should have gotten the new lens.

Is there anything wrong with the lens? If not keep it and save the difference in price. In the end if you decide to sell it you will probably get at least what you paid.

You could have the cc company get involved and that would get them moving. Or return it. What is their return policy?

The other good guys sell grey market also.

I don’t use Affinity but do use Lightroom on my iPad Pro and it works great. The Pro resolution is great and being able to do some off loading and editing is great. My main machine is a 27 in iMac. If Affinity works like LR and Photoshop you will be happy.
