Cell phones are rapidly trying to morph into cameras that make phone calls. I think that if you are a serious photographer. USE A CAMERA!!

I think the white lens hoods, like the white lenses are generally for having a cooler lens since white reflects light and heat while blask absorbs it. Don't take MY word for it, go and lay your arm on a White car and a Black car on a 98 degree, sunny day and see the difference. By the way, don't leave you arm on the black car too long or you will get a burn... OUCH!!!

I M H O If you process all your pictures in the computer and enhance, burn, dodge, take out stuff, add stuff and generally change everything about the picture. why are you a photographer anyway. I learned photography in the 70's when what you got was what you got. Computer programs have made todays photographer a point and click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click... That ought to be enough...NOW I'll go home and put 'em on the 'puter and make them over. I was taught to compose the shot with the proper lighting, framing, exposure and things like that. Then you got a good picture right out of the camera. If you didn't you figured out what you did wrong and it made you a better photographer.

The only safe filter to use in or on ANY lens is a solar filter that goes in FRONT of the lens. A filter that goes in a filter slot in the back of the lens will let the sun create heat and ruin the lens. Go to a Camera Supply store or order a solar filter from a store on the internet. That way your camera lens AND your eyes are safe.... good viewing!

It seems that my aging memory has done me a disservice again, I had forgotten the rule about posting in other peoples posts. It was not my intention to Hi-jack willard3's post it was only to give another perspective of the subject. I am kind of a train fanatic too.
I want to publicly apologize to the members of the forum and to willard3, as I have already done in private. It shall not happen again.

I used to do weddings and sports pictures. I got burned out on weddings and moved on from sports pictures. I tried to compose my shots carefully and make the best of film and processing on a limited budget. In fact the limited budget was the reason I quit photography all together several years ago, sold all my cameras, darkroom stuff...everything. About 5 years ago my son came in with an Olympus DSLR. I told my wife If I bought another camera, that is what I would buy.... no film processing, and if you don't want to print a picture you have virtually NO costs... Except for equipment. I now shoot hundreds of shots where I would have shot 10 or 20 shots years ago. Everybody is doing it. Watch an NBA game, you will see a large number of cameras sitting on the side of the court, operated by remote, and focused somewhere on the court on the chance that they will get a shot or two that will be worth keeping. And if you really want to see photographic overkill...watch the Olympics. I read that Canon and Nikon supply the photographers with cameras and large lenses just to get their cameras on camera for the advertisement. Gone are the days where a photographer would anticipate a shot and wait to get it. Now the photographer will put the camera on burst and shoot 30 shots and HOPE he gets something. and if he doesn't, well the players will be back down court in about 15 seconds and you can shoot 30 more!! Landscape photography is better but I think that quantity is taking the place of quality. Ansel Adams might take 3 or 4 pictures a DAY, that is IF the light was right, and if it wasn't....he would wait until tomorrow. Now you take a bunch of shots, and if the light isn't right, that's OK, you can always use PhotoShop to fix it. It doesn't matter how good a photographer you are, it matters how good you are at manipulating the image in a program like PhotoShop.

How much money can you borrow? HaHa....Seriously, Cameras are like Cars or Ham radios or guitars, whatever you want to spend, you can spend. I own Olympus Cameras so I am partial to them, BUT, all of the high end cameras are of good quality. Do This... figure out what you are going to be photographing... study the major brands to see which one is best suited for your needs and then buy the biggest, best one that you can afford. DON'T skimp on a less expensive model because you will only be sorry and then you will go out and buy the better one anyway. My personal preferences are the Olympus E-3 and the E-5, whey will do just about anything the others will do and won't cost you an arm and a leg...

I usually use e-bay also. Gives you an idea of what people are asking for and paying for your particular lens. Places like online camera shops like Adorama or B&H Photo usually have higher prices on used stuff.

Great footage. If I may suggest using a dissolve between shots would, for me, make a better video... Beautiful scenes...
