I see a lot of smoking in today's British shows. I would think they'd know better by now. You also see it a lot in TV shows from the 60s.

The story I've been told is that many actors are very self-conscious about their hands. On medium shots that show their hands, they have to be doing something with their hands and holding a cigarette was the easiest. Now that smoking is discouraged, in a typical scene an actor goes to the refrigerator and gets a can of beer, walks up to a table and pours a drink or fiddles with a phone, anything that puts something in their hands. Look carefully the next time you watch a movie.

With new PhD degree in hand, was being interviewed for a job when the news spread. Interview cancelled, but never went back to finish it. Was hired on the spot at the next interview at another company.

Getting a commercial printer to do the work is well worth it. Consider the time needed to oversee the printing and compiling the pages and the wear and tear on your printer. Additional advantages: commercial printers can offer a selection of bindings that would allow the book to lie flat for ease of browsing. Commercial color printers use special paper that produces better photo images than what you can print without you having to use expensive photo paper. They can help you select proper weight and colors for covers. They can advise you on how to prepare your files for them to use. Don't forget to check with your local mom and pop print shops. They do amazing work.

And you don't know? Probably that's why you don't like metric.
Let me ask you what is 0.359375 in lowest terms?

I keep this credit card-size conversion table in my tool box. Easy as pi to convert measurements. BTW, didn't you learn about Significant Figures in school? Four figures are sufficient for everyday use, and the fourth figure is probably pushing it.

Remember when golfers had caddies? Remember when golfers had golf bags on wheels? Now, golfers get their exercise getting in and out of the golf cart. 😋

Don't blame the golfers. Most courses require carts so they can accommodate more golfers.

Glass Negatives!!!

A distant cousin of my wife was a portrait photographer in Trinidad, Colorado in the 1900s. He shot on 16" X 20" glass plates. Attached is a photo of his son holding a glass negative of my wife's grandmother. We have a contact print made from the negative. The photo appeared in the March, 1991 issue of National Geographic. His negatives are now in the Colorado Museum of Natural History.

I could be wrong, but I believe that scanner is a flatbed scanner. If so, simply place the Glass negative on the scanner in the right orientation as square as possible with the correct side up [sorry way past my bedtime so you will have to figure that out yourself], you may wish to have several straight-edged sheets of preferably matt black paper to cover areas of the scanner bed NOT in the "picture" [hopefully this will decrease glare and light bleed over].
If incorrect or typing errors I apologize!

Not sure it was made clear in all the replies that in order to scan negatives (glass or otherwise) on a flat bed scanner, the scanner must be in "negative mode", that is, back lit and using proper holders. Simply placing negatives on the glass in front lit mode will only result in black images. Using a light box is the way to go.

Yes, I can print in landscape/booklet format, double-sided. The tricky part is deciding where to place each page. I arranged the pages manually. Pages 2 and 11 are side by side. Then pages 4 and 9 and then 8 and 5. Of course each double page has two pages printed on the other side. Yes, it can be confusing.

When I did a test print yesterday, this Epson XP-907 printed the opposite side of the page upside down. I should clean the ink-dump things in the ET2760 and print with that. It's better.

The page was printed upside-down probably because you checked the wrong box when asked if the binding was on the short side or the long side.

Businesses were using computers in the 1950s. I was working at Rexall Drug Company's world headquarters in Los Angeles in 1957 and they had a huge room filled with banks of flashing vacuum tubes. I think it was an IBM computer.

We took the Hurtigruten round-trip Norwegian coastal cruise in 2011. I won't upstage Leland22 with my so-so shots except one from the ship's view lounge showing the passengers absolutely awestruck over the breathtaking scenery. It was June and two days out of Bergen we had 3/4 inch snow on the deck. Highly recommended.

Why do you call it 'period'. Always flummoxed me. We call it a 'full stop' which may add a little importance to it's usage.
