A friend of mine shoots with a Nikon D610 and a D750 and has noticed a problem with the focus when she uses auto ISO. The ISO is only in the 200 to 640 range so there should not be a noise problem and she would recognize noise. Taking the same shot manually setting ISO does not seem to have a focu problem. I realize I do not know all of the particulars so my question is simply, "Has anyone noticed a focus problem when using auto ISO?"

For an 8-9 year old, I would consider a waterproof, crush proof tough camera.

Olympus Stylus Tough TG-860 Digital Camera (Orange)
On sale for $199 at B&H

When my granddaughter was nine she wanted a camera instead I bought her a smart phone. She used it for a long time and was very happy with it. She could call her friends and take a photo of them.

Interesting idea, I will suggest that also. Thank you

For a pocket-size camera with optical viewfinder within your specified price range, consider the Canon Powershot A1400. I own one and have it with me wherever I go. It produces decent pics; certainly good enough for someone in their pre-teens. As you know, composing with viewfinder instead of lcd screen increases stability, which means fewer blurry images. And fewer blurry images generally results in a more satisfying photography experience!

Thank you, I will definitely pass this along.

We bought a Nikon Coolpix S33 and it has worked well as a durable P & S, also small size. They are on sale at the Nikon website now for $100. Here are some features of the S33 from the Nikon website:

Waterproof down to 32 feet deep, shockproof from falls up to 5 feet and freezeproof to 14° F
Oversized buttons and a simple menu system the whole family can use
Dedicated button to record Full HD 1080p videos with stereo sound
3x optical zoom/6x Dynamic Fine Zoom lens with Vibration Reduction
We bought a Nikon Coolpix S33 and it has worked we... (show quote)

Thank you, being a Nikon guy I will definitely check it out.

Don't think a viewfinder is needed for a 8-9 year old child. There is a large selection of cameras in the $80--$120 range that would serve her well. Stores like Best Buy, Costco, Target, and Walmart have a big selection of P&S cameras. While I own Nikons it has been my experience that Canons seem to have the best P&S cameras. Does she have anything special that she is wanting to photograph? If so, that should be taken into account.

Thank you, I will follow up on subjects she may want to shoot.

There are literally dozens from which to choose ... from all manufacturers ... and you will find proponents and opponents for every one of them. While I agree with you about the viewfinder I think you will find that the child doesn't care. If you have a local camera shop stop in for a visit, otherwise head on over to the "big three" website(s). B&H, Adorama, and Amazon and do a search. Enjoy the time spent there; the kid will love whatever you choose.

Thank you, I feel better doing just that now.

Kids seem to be happier with screens than viewfinders, any small Canon would be good, a refurb would be very well in the budget, even a not so small SX50 right now

Thank you, I thought maybe kids might not object to the screen. I will eliminate that as a requirement.

A friend has asked for some help in purchasing a point and shoot camera for their daughter who is 8-9 years old. They would prefer something in the $200 range. I think a view finder is necessary but that could just be me as I have always had trouble using the LCD screen in daylight. Any comments or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I guess I just feel like I am doing more "my thing", like painting with a lens. I am sure there are folks who could do it better in PS. Now to find a D300.

I shoot a Nikon D600 and recently got interested in using the image overlay function but discovered I can only do up to 3 exposures. I want to go up to at least 9. I thought maybe I should buy a used Nikon that will do this but not sure which ones will do 9 images overlayed. I know I could stack in PS but would like to do it in camera. Any suggestions on what used Nikon I could consider? Thank you.

Thanks speters and ggttc, that is what I thought but wanted to make sure. I now know what to tell him he can do with that memory card. (put it back in stock) :)

I am looking at buying a Lumix FZ200 and the guy at the camera store is telling me I need to buy a:

"Digital Speed 1200X 8GB Professional High Speed Mach III 160MB/s Error Free (CF) HD Memory Card Class 10".

This seems like overkill to me, especially at $349.00 for an
8GB card. Is this necessary? Seems like a sales job to me.

Yes I have, I may try one of their smaller ones for a different camera. Thanks.
