I would love to get an M1 computer but the largest monitor available is 24". I currently have a 27". Why would I downgrade??

FYI - It is rumored that the new and improved iMac 27 will hit the market early next year. It is also rumored that the screen may even grow to 32 inches. One can hope!

Maybe we can ask for a group discount!!

Problem is everyone is out of stock. Kind of like sharing in the profits when the profits are zero!

I went to B&H and they recommended the 27 inch 2k and said I would hate the 4k since the type is so small.

I have no idea if it is true or not, nor remember where I heard/saw it, but during my research I read that the text reduction does not occur on 32 inch and larger screens. That is one of the reasons I was focusing on a 32 inch monitor, and that the screen will be about 3 feet from my head/eyes which I also read was recommended (1 foot of screen size to 1 foot of distance).

Just too many darn things to know when making a purchase/decision of this sort!

I've been looking at the BenQ monitors also and can't understand their categories. The PD3200U is in their "design" category, not the photography category.

Thx!

For information purposes, I chatted with BenQ about the different Photographer and Designer categories, and they stated the primary difference was due to Adobe RGB (SW photographer series displays deliver industry standard color performance for photo and video editing. It could make sure that your photo and the printing be consistent.)

Did a search and did not find anything specific to this monitor. Anyone own this as it pertains to photo editing, particularly with a MacBook Pro? Thanks in advance!

You say your old iMac is “kapoots.” What seems to be the issue with it?

Started out with the proverbial spinning wheel of eternity upon almost every keystroke, and shutting itself down. At first I could reboot it normally but would still have the spinning wheel issue. After awhile a normal boot up would not work. I learned how to boot up in safe mode from a past technical support issue (i.e., Unplugging system and pressing Control, Option, R and P keys simultaneously upon boot up). Again, this worked for awhile but not without usability issues. Now, it will not boot up at all.

Early in the above described issue process I did call Apple Support and they were going to try to do something (I never learned exactly what), but as they said there was a chance it could wipe my hard drive I opted not to do that at the time. And, as I said, now it will not boot up at all.

Lazy J,
I would be curious what programs you use for editing photos and do you do any video. Do you shoot and edit RAW or JPG?

I had the Lightroom/Photoshop photographer's subscription until recently, but really only used LR (never used PS enough to ever be comfortable with it. Currently use mostly the Luminar products. I currently do very little video shooting/editing. I shoot and edit in RAW.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. Appreciate it!

One issue I mentioned in my original post that nobody addressed, and again considering I am somewhat computer illiterate, is what obstacles or workarounds might I face when I go to retrieve files from my backup drive? Will I need a Mac computer to access? Seems I might get some in compatability error messages if I access with a Windows system? Thx!

It's fine. Look at the total number, version and position of the USB ports. They should now all be USB 3.0. This is relevant because 1TB doesn't last very long and you'll likely connect USB-based external storage. The 3.0 standard is the highest-speed, assuming the external device supports 3.0. Also, you need 4+ ports that are on the front or top of the tower to make access easy.

Thx! Good tip. For information purposes it includes:

Ports & Slots:
4x SuperSpeed USB Type-A
1x SuperSpeed USB Type-C
4x USB 2.0 Type-A
1x HDMI
1x RJ45
1x DVI-D
1x DisplayPort
1x 3-in-1 Media Card Reader
1x Headphone/Microphone Combination Jack

Front: Power, 4 USB, SD card slot, earphone jack.

I am a former Windows computer owner who has had an iMac 27 for the past 10 years. It has gone kapoots, so looking to replace. I have been completely happy with the Mac, but my wife has never completely adjusted. So, have decided it is her turn to be happy with our computer so focusing on a Windows replacement. Strongly considering the following CPU tower. I think this will handle my photo processing needs, but would appreciate confirmation from any computer geeks, or anyone that may own this.

HP ENVY Desktop ($1149 Costco)

Features:

> 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11700F (8-core) Processor
> 32GB DDR4-2933MHz SDRAM
> 1TB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
> 512GB PCIE NVME M.2 Solid State Drive
> No Optical Drive (Not sure if this is needed for photo processing?)
> NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super (6GB)
> Intel Wi-Fi 6 (2x2/160) Gig+ and Bluetooth 5.0
> 10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN
> Wireless keyboard and mouse
> Microsoft Windows 11 Home (64-bit)

As I am far from a computer geek, I would appreciate any feedback regarding the adequacies, or inadequacies of this system as it petals to general use and photo editng only (not a gamer).
Also, any recommendations as to a 32ish inch 4k monitor would also be appreciated.

Any tips on retrieving my iMac data from my backup drive, and potential compatability issues in doing so would also be welcomed.

Thanks in advance!

A bit more info on Silver Falls State Park. If you enjoy waterfalls, and still have a bit of hike left in you, you definitely want to put this on your "must see" list. It is a roughly an 8 mile loop encompassing 10 gorgeous waterfalls. Certainly made better with a normal preceding winter or the fall color in late Octoberish, but worth a looksee any time of the year.

I have the exact same pose of my wife sitting on a curb in the Carribean after too much rum on a glass bottom boat on our honeymoon!

Thx Toment, I will give that a try when I get home.

For the purpose of discussion, and again I do not do this type of edit often or ever, I thought I saw a YouTube video where you go into the Color panel as you indicate, but rather just grab the Eyedropper tool, click on the target color, which I believe opened a color wheel/spectrum, and then whatever color you clicked on in the color spectrum became the new target color. No? Thx again!

I have Luminar 4 and AI. My daughter has asked me if I can make a lavender jacket with white polka dots my granddaughter is wearing in a PDF file red with white polka dots. I told her I was pretty sure I could, but being more of a landscape guy I am not 100% sure. Also out of town so cannot play/experiment at this time. Can someone please verify this can indeed be easily done? Thx in advance!
