Funny you should mention that. I actually have a Celestron 4SE in the garage I am thinking about modifying to accept a piggyback SLR. All I need is some ambition! Heck I even have mini machine shop out there. It is a four car garage but only one car can fit right now. And yes it is my wife's car. I might be crazy but I'm not stupid.

Thanks. Way more luck than skill at this point. Always wanted to try real astro-imaging but I like to eat. You can tie up a bag full of $$$ on that gear!

Hey guys,

Here's one I took a few years ago with of all things an HP 945! I don't remember the settings, etc. but it proves that a blind squirrel does indeed get an acorn once in a while.
PS - my first attempt at "attach" so if nothing's there I guess the squirrel is still hungry.

Sorry but good try. If you need proof stop by and we'll go play a quick 9 holes. Can't do 18 holes. I run out of daylight, beer, and foul language.

Well we are off to a good start with the Fuji S1. Amazon promised Wed delivery and it arrived Tuesday. Charging battery and reviewing manual. Feels good looks good anxious for first light.

Bob, i actually got my first exposure to darkroom doing industrial radiography in the early 70's. We cast and x-rayed large steel castings for military and civilian power plants. Tank turrets, valve bodies, turbine shells, etc. Some of these weighed up to 100 tons and exposure even with a 24mv betatron was often hours long. Work like a rented mule for ten minutes then sleep an hour. Repeat a few hundred times and you're done.

Hey Nikonbob, Yes I operate 80 & 40 cw when I have an antenna that works. Looking to give 6m a try soon, too. I have a OFCD right now but I'm having some problems so I'm QRT for a bit. Also have an HVU-8 swiss army knife vertical. Not bad considering the size and coverage. Not expecting to get DXCC with it though! The bessy is thankfully gathering dust right now. Don't get me wrong, I learned a lot doing it the wet way but this digital stuff is the best thing since clumping cat litter.
PS to all - I ordered the Fuji S1. It'll keep me busy until I can talk the good wife into a real upgrade. Plus no bag of glass to tote.

Folks,

Just wanted to thank everybody for helping out with this. FYI I have ordered the Fuji S1. I like the 50X zoom; f 2.8 is nice, raw + jpg, reasonably "weatherproof" is nice for some of my "work", 30 second shutter available, and PRICE. I got it for $328 at Amazon which is much less than I was prepared to spend. So the way I figure I can leave the 70D with 18-135 lens on my "wish list" for my April birthday. Or since I don't have a lot of Canon glass, etc. around maybe make the switch to Nikon? Or Sony? Or . . . . .

Thanks again folks, Ken (W3KLS)

Here's a little background on what I shoot. Most of my shots are nature and either very close like flowers and insects or long range like deer a ways off. Often low light like dawn or dusk. Also do some long exposure star fields. Plus the usual family, etc. shots almost any camera could handle. No extreme enlargements or commercial work. Hope this helps and thanks.

Folks, this is a repost of part of my "introduction". My title on the intro wasn't very descriptive of my issue. So anyhow an old Rebel, one of the first I think, is my best piece. Thought about a 70D but that seems a big jump. I'm looking at a Canon SX 50 or 60 or a Sony DSC HX 400V. Any comments would be helpful.
Tnx, Ken

Been reading your site a while but finally decided to jump in.
A question - my current "best" camera is a Canon Rebel DS 6041 (several years old). I'm thinking just about any bridge would be a step up for me. I'm considering the Sony HS 400V. Comments appreciated!
