I believe you'll really enjoy the Tamron 18-400. I use it on my Canon 80D. It's obviously not as sharp as primes or short, high priced zooms, but very acceptable if you're not a pixel-peeper, or shooting for professional resolution pics. I'm not in those categories, so I really enjoy the versatility of the Tamron 18-400.
Just a suggestion...
When I first got my Tamron last year, the focus was not spot on in some areas of focal focal lengths. Due to the lens having 8 basic focal lengths from 18mm to 400mm, I decided not to try to micro-adjust the lens myself. I sent my camera and lens into Tamron for them to micro-adjust focus (my only cost was sending them in). It's now spot on. I highly recommend your doing this...sure glad I did.
Best to you...hope you enjoy the Tamron as much as I do!

They are ever faithful...always available the 4 seasons with their cheerful antics...absolutely impeccably dressed, ready to be photographed...gregarious, friendly, will eat out of your hand...their alarm calls help warn other birds of nearby predators...easy to attract to feeders for beginning birders.....I could go on. Simply put, they make people happy.

I concur. I live in Green Bay, but deer hunt in Price County, a little west of Prentice. In my tree stand, I've had chickadees on my lap, my shoulders, my hat, my rifle, often quite close on a branch. They are so friendly and fun to watch...just a beautiful little bird. I see you're in northern Wisconsin...where about? This morning (March 31) we woke up to new snow. Supposed to get an inch or two...pretty wet though, as it won't last long...was in the 50's just a couple days ago. Beautiful, wonderful Wisconsin! Thanks for your post of the chickadee...nice pic. God's blessings to you, and Happy Easter tomorrow.

I purchased the 18-400mm a short while ago. I have a Canon 80D. I did purchase the Tap-In console, as I plan to have the lens for some time, and it will help me with firmware updates that may come down the road. I was going to try to micro-adjust AF, but realized it would be a long task, as that lens has 8 basic focal lengths. Following advice from Dustin Abbott on youtube, I found I could send it in to Tamron (paid only the shipping cost to Tamron for camera and lens) and, because the lens has a 6 year warranty, they do the adjustments with your camera, reset the microadjustments needed at each focal length (within the lens) in respect to your camera, and ship it back to you in a short turnaround, at no cost to you. The lens was needing AF microadjustment; now it seems to be "spot on." I would highly recommend doing this; it'll save you a lot of time and hassle.

Had a 60D...now an 80D.
Two questions:
Did you clean the contacts?
Battery in, contacts down?

Thank you all for your input...much appreciated. However, I am still wondering if going from my Canon 18-200mm to the Tamron 16-300mm or Sigma 18-300mm would be a good or bad move.

Thanks, Mike. I've lived with the lens creep problem too...have had to handhold the zoom when I have taken shots with camera pointing down. It was that way, even when new.

Just wanting some feedback from my fellow UHHers... I appreciate what I have learned from you in recent years...thank you.
In December of 2016, I upgraded my camera body from the Canon 60D to the 80D...I really like the quicker focus, the auto focus in video, and some other updates.
My wife and I have 9 grandkids and 3 of them graduated this year...one from college, one from high school, and one from 8th grade. I have enjoyed my Canon 18-200mm lens, but wish I had had the 300 mm reach for the recent graduations.
To those of you who have had the Canon 18-200mm lens and have also used the Tamron 16-300mm or Sigma 18-300mm... do you think it is an upgrade (not just greater reach, but also IQ and other features) from the Canon 18-200mm? If so, would you recommend the Tamron or the Sigma?
Thank you...I respect your experience and insight.

Reason for selling: upgraded body to the 80D. Am keeping my Canon 18-200mm and 50mm lenses.

This Canon EOS 60D has been an excellent camera, is still in very good condition with less than 10,000 actuations. I am including the battery and Canon charger, and a Transcend SDHC 16 GB (Class 10) card. Asking $410, PayPal payment, free shipping included, continental US only.

The Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III lens is practically new. Includes a Sigma DG UV filter and Fotodiox C-ET-60 hood. Realized I didnรƒยขร‚ย€ร‚ย™t need it, because of my 18-200mm, which I use almost all the time, except when I shoot birds, etc. with my Canon SX50. Asking $80, PayPal payment, free shipping included, continental US only.

Note: $475, if desire both camera and lens.

Please PM me, if interested.
