I lived in SB for more than a year. The beaches around Goleta have lots of oil in the sand that you don'e see, so wear old shoes that you can trash. Drive North from SB towards Pismo Beach (US 1 &101). Keep going to "Big Sur" if you have time and see McWay Falls. Don't miss Mission Santa Barbara and the SB courthouse. All is terrific.
