๐บ๐ธSomething to consider...... Several retired folks will work at a different national park or state park all over the USA each year. A great way to see this great country of ours and get payed to do it. I just had to take an early medical retirement after 9 years as a tram driver/tour guide in Yosemites Mariposa grove of giant Sequoias. I never knew a job could be so much fun! ๐บ๐ธ
Just go to National parks.com for more info.
Apparently not! Is that alright with you?

I listen to my POLICE SCANNER 24/7 here at home to hear what's happening in my area. But can't think of why you'd want to listen to one in our National parks.
What am I missing here? Bear jambs? Bison Blockages? Ranger reports?
There are several good scanner apps for iPads and smart phones. I don't know about the others but 5-0 also has all the codes and their meanings.

I spent 9 years working in Yosemite and saw things that blew me away. Like the mom who tried to put junior on a deer for a photo op. Kids hand feeding squirrels M & Ms while parents took pictures. Every time I saw that I would stop my feet to chase a squirrel away, thus pissing off the parents. I would explain why I did it, and was still the bad guy. Those squirrels do not know where the candy ends, and the skin begins. Squirrel breaks the skin, plan on going through painful rabies shots, unless you can catch the squirrel for testing, and in my nine seasons there I have never seen a squirrel get caught yet
Visitors seem to think that it is a gigantic petting zoo. After an animal attacks or bites a visitor, it will be relocated in the park, or destroyed.
There are some excellent books you can get listing every death since day one, from natural to homicide / suicide to animal attacks, etc etc. i'm guessing that 75% of the deaths there are from pure stupidity. About 5-6 years ago three young visitors went over Vernal falls and died after a 20 something gal went over the safety rails, into the water, just above the falls. She slipped and fell off the very slippery rocks, one of her male friends tried catching her but also went over. His buddy tried catching him, couldn't, and also went over. This happened around June, they found the first body about a week later, the second body was found about a month later, the third was found in December. The resume she went into the water? A better camera angle.๐!!!!!
The Yosemite book is called "Off the wall, death in Yosemite." Close to 1,000 deaths listed. I've read it twice already and I'm sure I'll read it a few more times.
There's also one for Yellowstone, and also the Grand Canyon. They sound morbid, but are real eye openers to the dangers in the parks.
I got mine at Amazon.com, but you can get them wherever books are sold, or borrow them from your local library library.

Send it to me. I'm still using the one my dad bought around 1960. Actually, my son uses it now. 3rd generation, goes to show what will last when taken care of.
