Hi Maccelerate!
Buy a camera sensor magnifying loupe, preferably one w built in lights. Attached is an example... (I'm not making a product recommendation)

Hi Rongnongo!
I am well-versed on how to change a lens I only put a lens on & take it off in clean environments and with the camera body facing upside down. This was not the issue and the camera was only one week old and only had three lenses put on and take them off.

Hi Brucewells,
I rely on 3 lenses for wildlife. Sigma 150-500, Nikon 70-200, Nikon 70-300. Those lenses are snappy quick w my D7100 and my x-D7200 and their 51 point focus system. Never an issue. However, the D600's 39 point focus system is known for being slower and not effective in lower light. If Nikon nailed one thing perfect, it's their 51pt focus system in the D810, D71-200, and D750, they focus quick and in practical darkness.

Thanks for the response!!

Folks,
Thanks again for all the great responses.
I have another question though.
I use a Black-Rapid strap which suspends the camera upside down and at my side. I doubt Nikon tests for oil splattering while the camera is in this position; could I be causing my own problem? If anything would make liquid spill out of its vessel it's turning the vessel upside down...(?)

Anybody ever hear of this theory?

I returned the D7200 today and asked Adorama for a refund but I don't know how to proceed. If I jump ship completely, Canon is the only wildlife and sports option. Sony and Fuji don't have the >400mm telephoto lens options.

I've missed shots w the D600 focus system searching but I love it for portraits and landscape and don't want to part w it. I thought the D7200 would round out the toolbox while letting me stay w Nikon and affording me more reach w the crop factor.

My Nikon choices are the D750 or D810 and sell the D600 to offset price.

I'm confused and disposable cash isn't falling off the tree!

Hi CO,
I own a rare but well behaved D600 and clean my own sensors. Love that camera but it's focus is a bit slower than I like for wildlife and sports. I enjoyed the D7200 until I seen more oil accumulation in 2 days than a year from my D600. If you Google "Nikon D7200 oil spots" you will find other cases. Regretfully it had to be returned.

Glad you're D7200 is working well, best of luck to you RMorrison! I'm actually saddened by this because the first 200 shots were very nice. I don't want to part w Nikon but something has to change.
Best wishes!

I'm well versed on how to change lenses and hate to break the news to the clueless but the camera is brand new and only had 3 lenses attached and then removed. Furthermore, this is the last straw for my relationship w Nikon. I don't make my equipment decisions in haste and give every opportunity to a manufacturer correct any errors before I discontinue use of their products.

Buyer Beware!! My Nikon D7200 is one week old, had 3 different lenses attached, less than 400 shutter actuations. The sensor is SMOTHERED in oil and has left me no choice but to return it to Adorama. Nikon was sued in a class action case over the D600 and this morning I Googled "Nikon D7200 oil spots" and sure enough there are a good population of articles and forum posts citing similar experiences!!! Attached is a Lightroom CC Visualize Spots screen snap.

And the Nikon party continues. My friend was excited to upgrade from APS-C to the D610. It had to go back to B&H because it was shipped new with oil goobers on the sensor. Google the term "D610 oil spots" and the web is polluted with similar reports. It is shameful that a once great company now only cares about box store unit sales and not about photography. I own a D600 and have to wet clean the sensor every 3 weeks after a Nikon refurb-

Hi Vinman,
Sorry to hear about your troubles!
Sometimes a change to your monitor can affect what you see and thus what prints. It has settings that can change hue, tone, temperature, etc.

Certain video software, video games, and websites often contain a feature for THEIR optimum viewing experience. If you recall seeing an "Adjust the slider until you can see the object" tool in your travels those are the biggest culprits. They adjust much more than brightness. Go to the Display settings on your computer AND monitor and set EVERYTHING to "recommended" and or factory median. Some folks even buy a screen calibrator but they're an expensive last resolve. Then... Look at your pic and see if it has that hue on it. Adjust accordingly.

I hope you find the cause soon and the fix is a low cost fix!
Best of luck to you!!

Hi SteveR,
It finally sold- I received $365 via Craigslist after negotiating down from $400. But there were no shipping, EBay, or PayPal fees. Took forever but it was worth it and I met a new friend. We registered the lens warranty with Nikon together while we were at Starbucks doing the sale.

It can be frustrating but I'm pretty sure I'm only going to deal with used equipment funded mostly with used equipment sales. Although that new equipment smell can be tempting.
Happy Shooting
Paul
