MINNESOTA Declares War on the USA

President Barack Obama was in the Oval Office
when his telephone rang.

"Hello, President Obama," a heavily accented Norwegian voice said.

"'Dis here is Sven,
over here at the Muni Liquor Store in Menahga, Minnesota.

Ve don't like some a yer policies
so I am callin' to tell ya
that we are officially declaring war on ya!"

"Well, Sven," Barack replied,
"This is indeed important news!
How big is your army?"

"Right now," said Sven, after a moment's calculation,
"there is myself, my cousin Knute, my next-door-neighbor Ole,
and the whole pool team from the Muni "

Barack paused,
"I must tell you Sven that I have one million men in my army
waiting to move on my command."
"Wow," said Sven,
"I'll haf ta call ya back!"

Sure enough, the next day, Sven called again.

"Mr. Obama, da war is still on!

We have managed to acquire some infantry equipment!"

"And what equipment would that be, Sven?" Barack asked.

"Vell sir, ve got two combines,a bulldozer, and Sigurd's farm tractor."

President Obama sighed.
"I must tell you Sven, that I have 16,000 tanks
and 14,000 armored personnel carriers.

Also I've increased my army to one and a half million
since we last spoke."

"All right den, said Sven. "I'll be getting back to ya."

Sure enough, Sven rang again the next day...
"President Obama, da war is still on!

We have managed to git ourselves airborne!

We up an' modified Ole's ultra-light vit a couple'a shotguns
in da cockpit, and four boys from the coffee shop haf joined us as vell!"

Barack was silent for a minute then cleared his throat.
"I must tell you, Sven, that I have
10,000 bombers and 20,000 fighter planes.

My military complex is surrounded by laser-guided,
surface-to-air missile sites.

And since we last spoke,
I've increased my army to TWO MILLION!"

"Two million you say?," said Sven,
"l'll haf' to call you back."

Sure enough, Sven called again the next day.

"President Obama! I am sorry to have to tell you that
we have had to call off this here war."

"I'm sorry to hear that," said Barack.

"Why the sudden change of heart?"

Vell, sir," said Sven,
"we've all sat ourselves down and had a long chat over a few
beers, and come to realize that there's yust no vay
ve can feed two million prisoners."

I'm looking for help to set up a darkroom in a small (6x10) basement bathroom. I have a small sink, no windows and a viewfinder that will barely fit on a short table (7' ceiling) when installed. I also need to purchase an amber light, chemicals etc. I use a 35mm. I'm about an hour out of Mpls., MN.

I had a darkroom in the '60's, didn't have time to use it, so it gathered dust in my basement until reciently. I donated it to a charity sale, it didn't sell,so they scrapped it.

Thank you. I was actually shooting the buildings because they are so distinctive for our area, and then the opportunity presented itself and I ended up with a decent street photo. The dog, you are right, was not terribly impressed.

More of a Psychological Question is this one I suppose ..

I do lots of Street Photography with the Emphasis on Alternative / counter Culture etc ,
as well as Large outdoor events ..

I often Stop people in the Street ( men or women or groups )and ask if I could take their photo .. 99% they say yes ..
They sometimes ask for a card so they can get an free Email Copy .. And sometimes I give them
a card and say they are welcome to free copy via email if they write to me .

But what happens is that 99% Dont write ..
Cant understand this .. Surely they would want to see the image ?

Am trying to understand the Psychology behind this ..
Someone said ' It's because they are apprehensive '
Of What ? What's the worst that can happen ?

Any thoughts on this ?
Any same experience ?

Cheers

Thanks DickC. I appreciate your comment! Glad you liked the shot.
I loved the shot. A. Adams said the negative is the score, the print is the peerformance. Translated to digital, out of the camera is the score, your remembrance and vision of the scene is the performance.

Returning from a business trip, I was driving home on the Valley Freeway watching these fascinating clouds atop Mt.Rainier. As I got closer to home, the mountain was getting clearer and I had to stop for a few images. I was really hoping to come back later in the evening to catch this scene in the warmer light of the sunset but by that time the lenticular cap was completely gone. Oh well, next time....
Did you shoot
t it in raw? If so you change the color rendition any way you want. If shot JPEG you can still make some adjustments.

It seems like hit or miss when I'm taking the pictures. Seems like they're in focus when I'm in the DMF mode(magnifying the picture and using the manual focus) and when I look at the picture after it's taken but I upload it to the computer and...nope...more often than not the whole picture is not in focus...I read that I shouldn't be using anything in the focus mode but the flexible spot but just for kicks I've been experimenting trying "wide or zone" it's still hit or miss...

What am I missing? Oh and in the case of one shot here I tried to aim in the middle so I could get it all in focus. Seemed to get the flower and SOME of the leaf but not all. I was using a 55mm lens in AP and SP with ISO on auto

The last one was better but it just looks like the stem and a little of the petals are blurry...

People who get into photography and love the great images they can get with their DSLRs set on auto, still need to learn the relationship to exposure, f stops and shutter speeds. Depth of field. I started when I was 10 with a Kodaguide exposure aid, and went from there. You had to in those days because nothing was automatic. She should set her camera on" Manual" and start with the "Sunny f 16 rule".

Shooting JPEG the camera makes decisions about noise reduction sharpening and other parameters. Raw is a very detailed capture with a lot of room for adjustments that you must make for yourself. If you are not a control freak, you could shoot most scenes in JPEG. i shoot JAPEG, most of the time. If conditions are less than optimal, I might use raw. Don't give yourself a guilt trip.
