Hi everyone. I am new to this forum, so my apologies if the question is simple, or worse, has already been answered a zillion times before. I have an Olympus OMD EM10 for its portability, and have been doing some bird photography at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach Florida. I currently have the Zuiko 40-150 f5.6 telephoto lens, but would like more reach. Any suggestions without breaking the bank? My second question is that I understand that there is an inexpensive flash (about $50?) that mounts on the hot shoe and which fills in nicely on many telephoto shots. I heard about it from another photographer one morning at the wetlands. Anyone know what flash he was talking about? Many thanks!
Hello, i use the 40-150 with extender. But oylmpus just announced its long awaited new 300 f4 prime lens due out in March. Start saving. Henry

Need an mmf-3 adaptor.

I used to own one...nice, but a big lens.

I use the new 40-150 with 1.4. Works great but looking for more distance. Ill just wait for 300 prime. Best, david

Consider the MeFoto Walkabout monopod ($59.00 at B&H). It comes with a knob on top of the mounting screw that has a compass in it. Fully extended it is 59" not including the Oben ball head I have mounted on it. That makes it just about the right height for me (I'm 5'6") with a camera mounted on it to allow some tilt & good stability.

How is the oben ballhead working out for you. Any recommendations since you have been using it. I already have the monopod. Is it pretty stable as i know the screw isn't that long on the top of the monopod. I use an oylmpus mirrorless system.
Thank you, David

Can anyone ID these two birds for me? I'm even wondering if they could be the same bird! I appreciate all the help you can give to me! I've looked through my book and can't find them.

Here is one of the first images from the new Canon 100-400 4.5-5.6 IS II USM, using a 1.4 teleconverter to bring the focal length to 560mm. ISO is 500 at f/8, center point focus. Image is enlarged to 50%. As with any TC, some image sharpening is necessary. However, I am pleased with the lenses color rendition and overall sharpness. I kinda think I'm gonna like this lens.
What do you think?

Hi, do you handhold and how's the weight? David

Welcome to the Hog! If you click "Quote Reply" then we will know who you are responding to. I know your question was not directed towards me, but to the OP, but I will put in my 2 cents worth anyway. I have a 7DII that I have just started using for birding & wildlife. The lens I use is the EF 100-400mm L II. To me, it's not heavy but I can't say that everyone would feel that way. Combined weight is about 5.5 lbs.

Thank you, that's the exact combo I've been thinking about

Hi, what lens do you use on your new 7d for birding? And is heavy to handhold? Thanks, David
