I received a 35mm Yashica rangerfinder camera as a birthday present and immediately fell in love with photography. Joined the Navy in 1966 & had to cross train to get into Photographer's Mate A School in 1967. Got out in 1970 as I had no intention (at that time) of making it a career. Had 5 jobs in the next 18 months. The Navy was going to take my E-4 stripe so, I joined the Air Force. New career field was working in aerial recon labs. Some you will recognize WS-430B PPIF as an air mobile film processing & intel facility. Retired in 1988 & have only used my camera as a hobby since then.

I wonder if the spider would hold its pose long enough to do focus stacking.

Only if he's dead.

Hi Guys,
Hoping someone can help.
Any hints...?
Cheers,
Ron.

Beautiful shots. Have you ever tried focus stacking using a focusing rail, wider f/stop, & software, like Zerene Stacker, to stack the images? Several UHH’ers have posted stacked photos that have the effect you’re looking for. Working at the close distances macro work requires, you’ll never get the DOF you’re looking for in 1 shot.

I would hazard a guess that it is some form of lily. What form exactly, I have no idea.

By the way, I am an Air Force veteran also.

Thanks for your service. When were you in & what career field were you in?

Excellent set, Max. Pictures 3 & 4 look more like a pipefish than a barracuda. Barracuda are much more muscular.

Beautiful! What kind of cactus is that? It looks kind of Ocotillo-ish but my neighbor has several of those over 10’ tall and they aren’t in bloom (yet.)

Not sure what variety of cactus it is except that it is definitely a night bloomer.

Been busy all day starting with a heart stress test this morning. This will be the last photos until this weekend if there are any left to open. I love photographing these blossoms. The fragrance is very light & they're huge.

This cactus had 25 buds at last count & only 8 of them had opened, 6 this morning. The bees were having a feast. The last shot is of the whole cactus. In the download you can get a better idea of how many buds haven't opened yet.

This cactus is in our next door neighbors yard. The buds have erupted like there is no tomorrow. I don't think I've seen this many at 1 time in the 4 years we've been here in Arizona. Looking forward to shooting them as they open this weekend.

Perhaps you should look up the cost of maintenance for a Mercedes-Benz or a Porsche.

Make sure you can afford the maintenance before you sign on the dotted line to buy it. ;}

I pay $50.00 for a synthetic blend oil change in my 2002 Honda Civic at the shop I use & paid $14.00 each to have them replace the windshield wipers. I went to a local Honda dealer to get a new master key because all I got with the car was a valet key. The dealer charged me $212.00. I work at Batteries Plus Bulbs. We sell that same key for $107.00. Most dealers are a rip off.

A lot of the cactus usually bloom in May-June. Because of the heat we had during that time, the buds that appeared went from bud to dud overnight. The low temperatures have finally dropped to the upper 70's instead of the low 90's and we have some cactus blossoms. From the looks of the cactus in shots 2 & 3, I'll be shooting for the next few days.
