Lots to photograph in and around Sedona. I suggest you plan to get to the Grand Canyon very early and/or stay until sunset. Mid day light in the canyon is rather blah. Nice to look at but doesn't produce very good photographs. Superstition mountains east of Phoenix are worth a visit. Tucson Mountain Park and the Desert museum are a must - again the park is great at sunset. Also suggest a trip to San Xavier del Bac mission south of Tucson.

Ditto to these suggestions.

If this was your first try at carving, I am going to throw away all my tools.:):) Very nice work on the feather details. The only thing I can see is you should have sanded the bill just a little. But you did an awesome piece of work there. You should be very proud of the carving and what it stands for!!!
Erv

:-D Not my first carving. You've seen some of my others...this was just my first eagle head cane. I don't sand a lot of my carvings as I like to see the knife cuts. Depends on the piece.

Wow Larry! Very nice!!!!! Is that Maple? I have tried a few, but for some reason they don't feel right in my hand. I will have to try that type of grip. I did one with the head of the bird down about 6" from the top. But that was a lot of work getting the unused wood gone for the cane handle. I sold it at the craft show Janny was doing. She had to have someone out front doing some thing. :) I guess they didn't care that she paints and I was carving.:):)

Erv, I think it's basswood. I put a clear semi-gloss finish on it. The cutout was given to me by a fellow carver. The Michigan Wood Carvers Assoc. has a project to carve and give canes to veterans. As I'm a 7-year submarine vet, I asked if I could do my own. I put the boat name on the shaft (USS THOMAS A EDISON SSBN 610). It was my first attempt and I'm pleased the way it turned out.

My latest project is complete...an eagle head cane. I figure I'm going to need it one of these days. :?

If you think that was good just ask which is better, Canon or Nikon! :D On second thought, please don't!

I wouldn't think of it.

RonÂ… Did what you said but I cannot find a page seven. Page 1to 6 only. Camera is driving me nuts. Sorry.

I also have a new FZ200. I followed Ron's instructions with no problem. Make sure you scroll down to the tools icon (wrench), then right. At that point you'll see numbers 1-8 at the top right of the screen. At that point, it's easier to scroll up to level 7 than down through levels 1-6.

Nice pics, Erv. Hard to believe you've still got that much snow. It's virtually gone here.

Interesting. I wonder if he was paid by the hour or a fixed price for the project?

Nice pics. I live just a few miles away and have been there many times. Got photos of those same items and many more with my old camera. I plan to return with the FZ200.
