Last October we travelled to Churchill, Manitoba for 5 days to try for polar bears. The first 4 days gave us terrible weather with constant 40-50mph winds, blowing snow, and of course cold temps. What bears were around were not moving and we saw a few but very far away, at least for my camera gear. We did have some nice encounters with Red Fox and what they call Cross Fox (a color variation of the red fox). One curled up Arctic Fox, a few Ptarmigan, and Arctic Hares were also seen. The very last day the wind was at a more manageable level and the sun was partially out! Driving around we finally had a nice encounter with a Polar Bear walking up the coast line. It really was beautiful.

So these are some of the photos from our trip...

A wet day-37F at our yard, breezy and dreary! All of the birds in this set are Wet! Along with the photographer and his weary, arthritic bones...

Noted the Varied Thrush bouncing through the woods out front so I grabbed my Z9 with 600pF attached and tried a few shots. Low-light-ISOs above 9000- and just gloomy. Perhaps this Is a great setting for vampire movies...

With most of the broad-leaf cover gone, the birds must move in the rain between trees where something to eat may be found. Little cover except near to tree trunks and some find heath we have on our property sheltering. Few leaves=easier to see them as they move through the trees. No robins yet-thrush often move together.

Download and enjoy!

Poor admin has had to move my photos as I am so used to going to photo gallery that I keep putting birds there..... oops....

Anyway, these are not B&W but taken very early on a very foggy morning. I had hoped the sun would burn off the fog, and it did briefly. I have not quite gotten those done. They will have to come after I get back from a little trip that will fill Lightroom with more bird photos. I think it would help to finish one bird photo trip before going on another....

Another of Australia's favourite birds.
A large white cockatoo with a spectacular plumed yellow crest and dark bill. In flight it often misses a wing-beat with short glides between regular flaps on broad wings. Often erects its crest immediately upon landing. Occurs in a wide variety of woodland habitats, including parks and gardens. Calls include extremely loud harsh screeches lacking any musical quality whatsoever. Despite this, they make wonderful pets and can talk and mimic sounds as well.

Topaz is having a sale on PhotoAI till dec 31. Has anyone bought it, and if so, how do you like it? I am tempted to buy, as many years ago when I still used photoshop, I owned just about everything from Topaz. It seems as though they have incorporated their sharp and noise filters into one app, and will no longer be updating those

I had the old Topez and now have the new AI. I use the automatic…I not a skilled user so this tool is fine..there is much more in the program .
I exclusively shoot wildlife, on my best shots, I’ll test a copy on Topaz
, even if not called for.

There seemed to be decent interest in my first post, so I thought I would do one more. If you want to see more, you'll have to go to Uganda. If you want the name of a good guide, just ask.

Although a valid technical approach, with some better detailed steps, really this not the best way to go.

Rather, just copy the entire \Lightroom folder that includes your LRCAT from your main desktop onto your laptop, replacing the same folder on the laptop. If you have all your images, available to the laptop, the LRCAT should operate on the target laptop seamlessly. If your laptop folders or connected harddrive has a different drive letter or 'name', just open LR on the laptop and update the high-level drive name. The change will cascade through the catalog, updating all the 'missing' images.

When you get home, you could copy the \Lightroom folder back to desktop and just reverse the drive update, if needed, for when that LRCAT was used on the laptop.

Depending on the size of your LRCAT, this could be fast and easy or long and slow. If long and slow, than other ideas could be used, such as your original idea. But, you don't 'export' images like creating share JPEGs. Instead, you export to a catalog, creating a new LRCAT file (see the File menu for Export As Catalog). Copy the results of this processing to your laptop and use the LRCAT as the primary during your trip. Just copy that folder with the LRCAT to the desktop and run a 'catalog import' to merge the data back into the desktop catalog, File / Import from another catalog ...

Test your intended process well before leaving so you understand the process and the execution steps, both to the laptop and merging the results when getting home.
Although a valid technical approach, with some bet... (show quote)

Victoria Bamton, the Lightroom Queen, has a plan for vacation laptop use:

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/classic-on-vacation/

Where I see a challenge is that you want to bring existing image files for work on the laptop. Putting them back after you work on them means you have to resolve two sets of editing instructions in the transfer back at the end of your trip. New files from the trip will be easy.

Thanks for the help
