Our cat (which deigned to adopt us a couple of years ago) is completely relaxed about cameras - with or without flash

Yeah same here only we have two cats that out of the blue they decided to adopt us and that was that, and no camera issues..

What is the deal with cats. Do they think a camera is the death star?

My cat Cosmo, likes martinis, he is finishing my martini glass, great photo opportunity but as soon as I pick up the camera and point it, he BOLTS.

My OTHER cat Ghost, relaxing on a chair, a fireplace in the background, good photo opportunity, I pick up the camera and as soon as I point she BOLTS.

I'm using 24-70, f2.8, should I use a longer lens?

Hmm, my wife and I have three cats and no issues with the camera..

Lucky you.. Yellowstone is absolutely beautiful teaming with landscapes and especially wildlife. For wildlife yo WILL NEED at least a 400mm lens and longer, been there twice with my 400mm and 1.4 extender and wanted more.. So good luck and enjoy.

*ahem* and who did THAT testing?

When it comes to archives you must keep up with the computer technology as the file format we use may/will become obsolete so during the transition period one will have to 'convert' the images to the newer format.

Then the media (DVD) may also go the way of the dodos, so that is something else to watch out for...

Yeah a bit exaggerated no doubt..

if they are saved on DVD's that are burned professionally thats good, if they are saved on DVD's like the ones you burn at home, they say they are good for 5 years and then start to degrade. I have a few that are older than 5 years and work great. , but I also have a couple that I can no longer access the data and they are 4 to 5 years .... I recently
backed up all my backup dvd's just for that reason..

After my slides are digitized I put them on archival DVD discs as is all my digital images are... Theae ARCHIVAL discs made by Delkin Devices, claims to last for 100 years.

Hi John
Nice shot,I have the same lens but on a 7DMK1... Now please don't get me wrong here, it could be a tiny bit sharper, I know because I had this problem also. First did you use center focusing point only, that's what I use and generally on center of and brightest part of the moon, that seems to work fine {for me}. Also you need a faster shutter speed because the earth is is spinning and there is plenty of movement here..I found a SS of 200 works better then 160, yes on a trypod. I had clouds here in the Los Angeles area so I am bummed. I also try to keep the ISO as low as p0ssible, that will give best resolution, at least this is what works for me.. Hey this is a terrific shot, really. I am 64 so your glimmers are just fine. Oh there is one other thing, I looked at your image at high magnification and it still looks good..

Do you find that it is even when the lense is open wide? Does it vinette? Color cast? I may be interested....

Not sure about vignette, but thin mount is not suppose to...Sing-Ray filters do not color cast and they are one of the truest neutral grey density filters out there, that is why I use Sign-Ray and so do many pro's.

I prefer a tilt head over a ball head..I have an early Manfrotto tilt head now but it is not real smooth in the tilt action. Kirk Enterprises makes a tilt ball head which will work much smoother as does my Kirk ball head.

Only problem with the Cloud plan is they are pushing hard.

My first reaction to being pushed is to do the opposite. :-}

That and I do not like monthly charges. I would rather pay once and let me decide on when to Upgrade.

I agree 100%! This cloud scheme is more about making tons of money and being in control...this IS THE CORPORATE WAY!!!
No BS that is the way it is in America today.
