Crucial is a good place to look for memory. I recently purchased 2 8Gb cards for my 27" iMac, increasing it to 32 GBs. It only cost me $56 at Amazon and the difference was noticeabley faster. Crucial has a program you can download and run that identifies what your iMac is running and what is available to max it out. When you consider what you spent for your iMac and how long you"ll be using it, upgrading to 32 GBs for $115 makes sense in my book. Changing the memory out is so simple and easy, you'll be amazed! Just my 2 cents worth.

I have an iMac 27" 3.5GHz Intel Core i7 which came with 8 GB of RAM. I immediately increased it to 24 GB using two 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory cards from Crucial. It was much better but I thought it was still pokey but Apple assured me more memory would not help. I'm running Photos and it seems fine, just slow. Yesterday I increased the memory to 32 GB and that makes all the difference in the world. The photos load faster and it seems crazy but the photos even seem to look better. I thought about it and realize the computer is designed to max out at 32 GBs and we have been holding back the amount of memory, because? I cost me $56.99 from Amazon to kick this machine to the next level and I must say, I once again am I love with my iMac, it flies! Believe me, that $56.99 was the single best investment you'll make for your machine, just saying.

El Capitan comes with Photos and will do just about anything you need in post processing, starting with opening the raw images.

There's a good chance it's still downloading, just let it run. If you do have an Apple Store close by, make an appointment at the Genius Bar and bring it in. If it's a software issue they will fix it at no cost. If it's a hardware issue, they'll let you know how much for them to repair it and alternative fixes. Good luck

I've bought items from their main store in Melrose, Ma and in Manchester, Nh. They are in fact the real deal. The main store is a great place to check out everything photographic, everything, and the salespeople are very knowledgable, unlike Best Buy and there's no pressure to buy.

I'm not certain but I think you might want to try Apple Photos out a bit to find out if it fits your needs. I realize the "consensus" at the UHH is that it's not worthy but it actually works quite well, just saying.

You have three months of support even if you didn't get AppleCare, which I strongly suggest you buy! Call Apple support and they will very nicely walk you through any problem you have.

Actually, I found that since I switched to an IMac I've haven't had any problems with Windows😱

You said you switched to black sunflower seeds, is it black striped or black oil? Black oil sunflower are the better of the two and either one is superior to the mix of seeds commonly sold but full of seeds the birds pass by for sunflower. Give it a few days for the word to get out then get ready for some good viewing!

Now would be an ideal time, fewer tourists, to visit Cape Cod. Also, anywhere along the coast from Cape Cod north, Boston, Salem, Rockport, Gloucester, all the way to Camden, Maine. Each stop I think you would find interesting and begging to be photographed! Then to your west is Vermont. Enjoy!

Jerry,
Apple still allows you to add RAM to their 27" iMac, I just went from 8gb to 24 go without any problem, it was actually easier than my older iMac. I'm also running iOS 8.2 on both my iPhone and iPad and no where do I find iWatch! I don't think Apple has any holes in the foot yet.

The iMac must be quite old to have only 4gb of ram. If you don't include a current 27" iMac in your search, you are really missing out on a great computer. Every upgrade, including new operating systems have been free and their support blows Dell out of the water. I'm not saying don't look at other systems but do yourself a favor and don't dismiss Apple until you look at it, just saying.

I suggest you call Apple support again and ask to talk to an iPhoto tech. If what you've been told to do to correct the problem doesn't work, they will stick with you until your problem is solved and in this case it sounds as though you need an iPhoto expert.
I had called with a problem where I couldn't email photos from iPhoto. I was handed off to an iPhoto person and he had just recently run into the same problem. It seems that in your contacts an email address must include a first name, once I corrected that omission, problem solved.
For me, my first response is to try and figure out the problem myself, especially with two computers side by side, but in my case I would have never thought to look in my contact list for the solution, the iPhoto person said it took him almost 3 hours to find the solution! Give Apple a call, good luck

Just a heads up, the folks that work at the Apple Store do not work on commission and will not steer you to spend more so they get more. These folks are your best friend when assembling a new iMac. If you're looking to keep this iMac for 5-10 years, I would get the i7, in 5-10 years time it will barely be in the running. If you get the chance to visit an Apple Store, look at the 5k retina, it is amazing and for photo editing, you couldn't ask for more! Cutting edge today certainly won't be 5-10 years out, just saying!

Talk about inequality! All of those citizens who would love to be allowed to vote and yet here in this country we have millions of people who can't be bothered to vote, it just doesn't make sense. Hopefully something will be done to allow these US citizens to be US citizens.
