I like this image. On my monitor, the ship in the thumbnail photo appears to have a "halo" around it, but the full size image does not, so that is good. Looking so straight downwind is an interesting view, and works well for tall ships. It might have been nicer if it wasn't such a typical Pacific Northwest day, but the grayness of the background does help the ships to stand out.

I also appreciate the history that you included regarding the original ship and learning more was easy to do for those of us who are interested enough.

Thanks for posting.

This is really good. I would have never thought to do a panorama of something like this. I would have just taken a wider angle shot and cropped to get the area of interest. Besides the movement that makes stitching difficult, even if you are really quick then the persons on the right side will be at a different place in the song than the persons on the left. Good job. It looks really nice.

Beautiful. I read someplace that the Spirit Lake Lodge has been reconstructed on the site of the buried lake?

It is quite a site and an interesting place to go back to occasionally to see how it is recovering.

The lake isn't exactly "buried". It exists at a higher altitude, with more surface area, but is not as deep, and it still has significant floating debris on parts of it. The original shore level is about 200 feet below the current surface. I do not think any of the lodges nor the camps (Scouts, YMCA, etc.) that were on or near the lake will ever be rebuilt in this area. The closest any road gets to that lake is about a half mile as the crow flies and is along a ridge. I think there is only one trail that goes all the way down to the lake. Others go to various viewpoint areas.

Nice! Image from the Rockies with my morning coffee, great way to start the day!
Thank you for posting.

You are welcome. While the Pacific Northwest is nice, we miss the short drive we used to take to get up into the Rockies.

Can you give me the state, please?

Rocky Mountain National Park is in Colorado, northwest of Denver. I lived in Loveland at the time, had annual passes, and spent many off season days up in the park.

This was taken in the early fall (late September, 2005, according to the exif data), which is the best time of the year to be in RMNP because the crowds are gone.

This panorama was done with a series of maybe 5 or 6 shots using a HP PhotoSmart 817 camera (5 MP point and shoot). At the time, I worked for the HP division that developed those cameras (writing test and calibration software for the camera manufacturing) and often had one to test with. Since that camera was one of the earliest ones to have in-camera panorama stitching, I probably used it to make the whole scene. (I can't find any individual shots on any of my systems.). Later editing was done with LightZone (removed some branches in water and did some tonal adjustments).

I think the photo is fairly close to doing what you want it to do.

Generally, if you want to capture some specific part or aspect of a photo, cropping might be considered (it is usually worth a try). This removes distracting or unnecessary elements in the image. and enlarges the important parts. In this case I would crop in from the right side, to remove some dead space. Since the blouse is not the important part, I would crop up from the bottom to just above the folds in the cloth on the left side. If there was some important context around the person, then cropping would probably not be suggested. The neat thing about digital processing is that you can try all sorts of variations and decide what brings out what is important to you.

For tonal properties, it isn't far off. The skin is close to skin color, which is good. It feels a little washed out, so I would lower the "luminosity" or maybe lower the highlights some. This all depends o what tools are available in Photoshop Elements (I use Lightzone, so we might have different tools available).

Hi. As others have said, the key is to be able to separate the objects (bird, branch, etc.) from the background water. I use LightZone, which allows for selection based on color or the inverse of the selected color. I may have over done it some, but mostly to show that the colors are there. This took about 5 to 10 minutes.

Lone Range Finder,

You are correct. This is Multnomah Falls. I don't know where I got Klamath Falls. I don't think I have ever been there. Thanks for the correction.

Dave

The city of Klamath Falls is about an hour or so south of Crater Lake in southern Oregon. There never was any falls by that name (the river had some rapids, but those were mostly gone after a dam was built a long time ago).

The "Lodge" (gift store, etc.) at Multnomah Falls just opened a few weeks ago after the wildfire in that area closed it in September. I do not think that the path to where you took the photo is open yet, but might sometime in the next few weeks.

According to this article HP has been selling over... (show quote)

From other articles....

The key logger was disabled (but could be easily activated).
HP has already released patches and their webpage with the fixes had a release date or 07-Nov-2017.

Even though the information is over a month old, there are probably now still lots of HP Laptops with this easily exploitable security risk. If you have one of the models listed on the HP site, you should immediately update the bad driver. (and now that the word is out, there will be those trying to exploit this issue)

I would have never considered a panorama in a place like this. It is better than I would have ever imagined. Adding the columns on each side gives scale to the overall area. I like it.

Nicely done. Every time I see photos of Palouse Falls, I am reminded that it is on my short list of places I have not been to that is still within a one day drive of home. Is there a best time of day to photo graph the falls (maybe to avoid bad shadows)? Was the sky really that saturated?

Jerry, a very nice result. Love the vertical flow of the tulips clashing with the horizontal flow of the background. The long, straight rows are the opposite of the more random appearance of the clouds. I am not quite sure I like the visual clash between the flowers and sky. I think how can the flowers be in such strong sunlight that makes them look so vivid while the sky is so ominous. This is a fun shot to play with in that regard. Thanks for posting.

This image is facing east which is the direction that the clouds were moving, so the storm had passed. The upper right hand portion of the image gives hint to the transition that was happening in the rest of the sky. At that point, the sun was filtered by much lighter thinner clouds. While this field did not have direct bright sunlight on it, it was much nicer than what was under the background sky. As we drove to other fields in the area (there are many other fields), the sun did come out. Those images were not as interesting from a panorama or landscape type view, sometimes because of the direction the field faced, and sometimes because of other background views. After seeing a handful of fields, they soon became "yep, it's another pretty tulip field" and we went to see and take pictures of old barns in the area.

Just because you are paranoid does not indicate that there are not people out there who want to take advantage of you.

My personal opinion is that I do not buy anything that can talk to any other device by any means (cable, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, etc.) until it has proven itself in the marketplace for some period of time. This is an area where I think trust must be earned. I guess I am also a member of the paranoia club.
