You are 100% right. I have to agree with you all the way. You are the artist and you are the one that has to like it first after that it doesn't make much difference. Some will and some won't like it but it's you that counts. all artist are different. That's what art is all about, being yourself...Rich

Thanks Rich. I'm sure some in this thread likely don't like either of these pictures. But I do and that's good enough for me. Here's another shot I took with my D7100 and my AFS-DX 18-200. I like this shot as well and again, I didn't do anything with it after taking the shot.

OK.....I'll bite. First of all, I was in the other thread. I never said I don't PP. I said, I don't do a lot of PP. I have no aversion to PP, but I take pictures for my enjoyment and a lot of what I take is "good enough" for me. I'm not looking for anyone to make either of these un-PP'd pictures better to show me I should PP more, though if you feel it's your "calling" to do so, knock yourself out. I'm not foolish enough to say my pictures couldn't benefit from PP. They're just often good enough for my needs. As an FYI, these were both shot with my Nikon D7100 and AFS-DX 35mm F1.8.

You are if you think that is all PP is used for.

See above. You don't know me well enough to know what I think PP is for.

Then you're missing the point of pp completely. It's actually shocking to see how many people here think it's for "fixing" bad photos. That screams ignorance.

Sorry, but your comment screams "incredibly rude." I'm well aware of what PP is capable of. I just choose to not do a lot of PP with my pictures. And my comment is correct "for me." I'm more inclined to fix a messed up photo, but that doesn't mean I'm missing the point of PP at all. I have certainly enhanced many decent shots with PP, when I thought the activity would be worth the effort.

Count me in the minimal PP camp. I have both Elements 12 and Lightroom 5 and I will use them if I've taken a shot that is really crappy and I have no other option to salvage a moment I really want to keep. Otherwise, if the pic is crappy and I can live without it, I trash it.

Spend a little more money and get a Nikon D7100 and the 18-140 kit lens for starters. You will have something that will carry you through longer, and controls are more intuitive. You are starting a photography "system" that you will be building on, and you can do just about anything with the d7100 using exterior controls without having to go into menu's once its set up. Those very low end cameras are no easier to use, probably the opposite and you will want to upgrade within 6 months.

You do realize that could waaaaay out of the OPs budget, right? It's like someone asking which they should get a Toyota Corolla or a Honda Civic and someone saying they should get a Mercedes E Class instead.

Yes, the D7100 is a wonderful camera. I have one. But I started somehwere and it certainly wasn't with a D7100. Maybe it would help if you had asked what the OPs budget is before advising they spend almost triple the cost of either the D3200 or T3I and kit lens.

Have you downloaded the full D5200 Manual, or are you looking at the condensed version which came with your camera?

The full manual offers much more detail: http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/dslr/D5200RM_NT(11)01.pdf

or drive to melbourne and shop at southern photo. great service, products, offer lots of classes like beginning portrait lighting, and sponsor both a canon and a Nikon owners group. plus there sales people are actualy photographers and not minimum wage drones from the best buy collective. you will be asimilated resistance is futile.

Thanks. That's quite a drive from Tampa. I find it sad we really don't have truly local (except one in North Tampa, who is really a Canon shop) photography stores in a city as large as Tampa.

Some of us do, some of us don't. We know which camp we respectively belong in. ;) or

You're right. I belong in the I buy locally camp. I appreciate the added service and knowledge shared by a local B&M. Sadly though, in Tampa, Best Buy is about the only option left. If they leave the marketplace, there simply won't be anywhere else to hold a product in my hands and see if it's what feels right for my needs.

The D7200 is in the works for release later this year, likely September. It should fell the final death knell to the D400 rumors.

And where did you get this "inside" knowledge? Nikon certainly hasn't posted anything at all on this subject.

Let's face the fact that we the "I want to see it, touch it, waste your time asking you questions about it, but buy it for a lower price online" customer is to blame for the ongoing disappearance of brick and mortar stores. We have ourselves to blame.

Though it might cost more, I prefer to buy cameras and lenses locally rather than online because of the service and help they provide.

+1 Saving a few, even more than a few $$s simply isn't worth the hassle in the event something goes wrong. And I do like to support local B&M stores. The day is fast approaching when there will no longer be any photography stores who can afford to keep their doors open. To me, that is a very sad eventuality as I do like to be able to see something in the flesh and see how it fits, feels in my hands and be able to determine if it's going to meet my needs.
