I live in Texas where in 2021 Green Energy FAILED - and the grid went down.
Green Energy doesn't work. Petro-Energy has been politically throttled.
Our current US energy generation capacities cannot support the rise of EV's - without help.-

I'd still like to play with a Plaid :)

The reason the Texas grid failed in the winter of 2021 was due to the fact that Texas refuses to connect to the rest of the country’s grid. Rugged independent minded and sometimes foolish. But that’s Texas.

It costs me about $100 to drive my Tesla 3 from Naples, FL to Hewlett, LI. I save about $20 compared with my previous car, a Camry hybrid.
In Florida I have solar panels which means it costs me very little to charge the car.
The car is marvelous to drive, but there is no effing way that I would own it if I still lived in Andes, NY.
I don’t think that there’s enough height above the ground to handle some of the roads in Delaware county, or 10 inches of snow. Also I would hate to hear the stones on the dirt road I lived on hitting the underside of the battery.
But here in south Florida? With solar panels? Great car.
BTW charging to NY costs us an extra 40 minutes or so each day on the road. (I charge at my daughter’s house- he also has a Tesla). But I save far more than the 1.5 hours to and fro NY by charging in my garage.
Also, I have had my ID stolen twice at gas stations in Florida, and once at the gas station in Delhi, NY.
If you haven’t driven a Tesla, definitely take one for a test drive, even if you have no intention of buying one. It is a lot of fun.

The benefits of the Z system are the improvements in the new lenses. If you don’t acquire the new S line of lenses to go with your Z6 you really are wasting your time and money. Remember camera bodies are considered consumables, the lenses are going to last you a long, long time. Also you’re asking about matching a full frame camera with crop format lenses which seems like a losing proposition.

We stayed at Tangala Safari Camp, wonderful experience. A 100-400 is ideal for everything except birds. In 3 days on Safari we saw all the large animals. Highly recommended.

I’m pretty pessimistic that the world will ever heed the advice having been given for the last 50 years and stop burning f****l f**ls. Irrecoverable loss of plants, insects and animal species is well documented and underway at an historic rate. So go ahead, burn on! Make a wasteland of the planet. The tipping point of no return will soon be reached. Homo Sapiens one day will be extinct and new species will evolve. Hopefully ones that are wiser than us.

Agreeing with Silvers (above) .....

You wind up with a jpeg as a finished product after you finish whatever raw file processing is desired. So when none of such processing is desired, theres nothing inferior about shooting direct jpegs.

Acoarst, our UHH Sacred Tradition demands polluting the thread with *WHY* working with raw files is "always" preferable, but that is simply NOT the question here. For my own use, direct jpegs are seldom suitable, but that doesnt change my above simple reply to the original simple question.

My estimate is that we have a solid 20 pages of off topic drivel awaiting us. Im grating the cheese and melting the butter right now ;-)

That sounds like they are charging her for the size of her solar installation. Solar panels are sized by the kilowatt or the amount of power (size) they produce.

Sounds to me the utility company financed her solar installation and the $1.18 payment is a way of paying it back over time. The size of a typical home solar installation is around 5-8 kilowatt (kW). So if the utility company financed the installation, she would be paying back around $8 to $9 per month but saving considerably more for the energy she was using for her use.

The charge of $1.18 per kWh would be a VERY, VERY high electricity rate if that were for each kwh generated. Our rate here is around $0.11 per kWh used. Even very high rates rarely exceed $0.150 to $0.20 per kwh

I agree $1.18 per kWh is nutty. Here in Massachusetts my electric rate is $0.37 per kWh and is among the highest in the country.

NOTE: kw is a measure of power, kwh is of measure of power used over time
1 kw or 1000 watts used for 1 hour = 1 kwh
1 kw or 1000 watts used for 1/2 hour = 0.5 kwh
a 100 watt light bulb used for 1 hour would use 0.1 kwh,

In the metric system you often see engines or motors rated in watts rather than horsepower (hp)
1 horsepower = 746 watts or 0.75 kw so a 100 hp engine produces approximately 75 kW

When someone else is paying it’s all good. Except for those who paid the bill. Not criticizing you just being amazed that we have a system where people of means get paid by all the little guys.

Unfortunately that’s exactly what’s happening. The high cost of the initial installation makes it unaffordable for most who don’t have a lot of capital. And here in Massachusetts we have a solar surcharge per kWh on every electric customer.
