Smaller body with Pro features would be a welcome. I travel a lot and want to take a camera with me, but my D700 is too large. Can't they make a D3200 size body or smaller, with D7100 features???
If you are into fast action sports, the focus tracking is much better with the 51 focus points. You will never get the shot if you lock the center focus and re-compose.
The D5200 is a great choice!!! I currently own a D700, which I love, but am going to get the D5200 as my travel camera. It is more compact, has a great sensor, and video capability as a bonus!
I totally agree with Zero Equals Infinity. Bring both cameras, with the 180mm on the d7000. I like the 85mm on the D600, but would also consider the 24-70 on it instead, if you have the opportunity to get closer. When things start moving faster, I like the flexibility of the zoom.
Thanks for all of the great responses. I really appreciate the response with the weights and dimensions from Zero equals infinity. I am waiting to see the specs of the replacement for the d7000, but am still strongly considering the d5200. The other brands are great suggestions, however I have a lot of greta Nikon glass, so I will stick with the brand. I am going to share all of the information with my friend with the Canon going to Africa, and see what she decides. Thanks again everyone!!!
I currently own a Nikon D-700, which I love. I am looking at the new D-5200 as a travel camera, as my job has me travelling weekly, and I pack lightly, carrying on everything when I fly. I like the size of the camera and the resolution that the 24 MP sensor will produce. I have a friend taking a trip to Africa, who is owns a canon 5D Mark II, and wants a smaller body with similar specs to the Nikon d5200. Would you Canon aficionados out there respond with the Canon models available?
I have both and the answer is 70-200 VRII hands down! You can't beat the wider aperture fixed at 2.8, and with the 2X converter, it is still the same maximum aperture of the 80-400 at 400mm.
That back country road in Lancaster takes you through the Amish towns of Blueball, Intercourse, and Paradise...all in that order...no kidding!!! Great photo opportunities along the way.
I would also include shots of several Theatre marquise in the theatre district, some famous restaurants IE Smith and Wolensky, Serendipity, Tavern on the Green, Carnege Deli, Apollo Theatre in Harlem, Macys, and Saks Fifth Ave
I took a cruise to Alaska with 2 lenses and my Nikon dslr. I had the 18-70 and 80-400 VR. I used the long lens every bit as much as the wider one, taking shots of eagles, glaciers, humpback whales ect. It wouldn't have been the same, had I not had my best equipment...
I agree with selling the 24-85. The 24-70 is a much better lens. You could use the proceeds from the sale as a downpayment on a wider lens, like the 14-24...
OK...I get the part about lightening up, and I like the humor most of the time. I just disagree with pure misinformation delivered under the guise of humor. As far as the number of posts I have made, I read UHH every day and only say something, when it hasn't already been said, or I feel adds value to the discussion. BTW...nothing personal intended by my comments, but just wanted to make a point...Regards
I guess this is no longer a forum to find out information, but rather a platform for pompus persons to pontificate, only to listen to and entertain themselves...
I have used several sites for posting photos online and like Smug Mug the best.
