Utopia exists only in the minds of individuals with no conscious ability to observe.

Zophman: 480,000 Americans die each year due to diseases caused by smoking (cdc.gov) Why isn't smoking illegal?

Nagy: Please provide credible evidence for that level of mortality from second hand smoke. It seems like abject nonsense to me. Smoking in most public places is illegal, and very few people still smoke today. A very thin minority of people I know have contracted or died of lung cancer. I do not know a single non-smoker who has had lung cancer. I personally knew more than one who has been shot to death, even though the annual carnage by that route is downward from 40,000 a year (dramatically reduced during the Obama era.)

There is a difference between the proven mortality caused by smoking vis a vis firearms. The smokers k**l only themselves, while shooters k**l themselves, as well as others. Nevertheless, if you are implying that smoking should be illegal, I agree. It is a monstrous form of self abuse, and the industry should be destroyed.

The CDC has published these findings regarding second hand smoke (Google is an amazing tool...you should try it. It's easy!). 41,300 people die each year from second hand smoke. Smokers not only k**l themselves but other innocent victims. Yes, in most communities smoking in public places is illegal or at least significantly restricted. So why does the second hand smoke death rate remain? And does your personal experience regarding lung cancer qualify as scientific study? I doubt it. Your premise concerning the proven mortality of fire arms and smoking is without merit as evidenced by studies from numerous organizations including the CDC.

It only makes sense to know the job from the ground up. Not necessarily starting at the bottom but get to know something about every department under you. Spend a few days around a production line or in the field with technicians. Get out of the office and see the conditions your people work under. I've had jobs where I sweated in 100+ degree temperatures in the summer and below freezing in the winter but the job had to be done. And a lot times a supervisor who could be in a comfortable office was out there in the field with us. Mostly getting in the way but it's the thought that counts.

I always thought a good trait of a good manager was to demonstrate he/she was willing to do what their subordinates were tasked to do, even if the manager wasn't' t technically qualified. I mean do you want the hospital manager doing surgery?

You are right but you must realize that this is exactly why the good guy with a gun narrative is such bulls**t. I have said many times before, when first responders arrive on an active shooter scene, they will not be able to tell the bad guy from the good guy. Unless all you "good guy heroes" are willing to wear special hats or something...

Hero fantasies are not the same thing as real life.

I think the situation will dictate the actions. There are many incidents where a civilian with a gun has stopped or curtailed possible grievous harm. I am not aware of any incident that supports your opinion. But I haven't researched it like I am sure you did.

True. You must have some inside information that I'm not privy to. I was under the impression that the man who was shot ( 4 times while still buckled in ) was being cooperative with the law.
The subject matter of what I posted was the "video".

My remarks were general in nature, not specific to the Minnesota case. From the video it does appear the officer commuted a grievous error.

I thought Obama Care was suppose to cover everyone? Now I am learning that it isn't working? Golly gee, who would have figured?

I would allow the survivors of the victim(s) in horrendous crimes to be able to select and carry out the method of executing the convicted. It would be elective of course.

Common sense should tell a person that a police officer has way more power than you do. Being submissive is not necessarily being a pussy when it comes to protecting your personal being.

I learned a long time ago that the "suits" who have never been in the trenches and actually did the physical work normally don't know s**t. Just like Obozo they don't know what end of a shovel goes in the dirt. And I've told a few "bosses" that. I didn't get fired because I produced and made the "suits" look good. What a world.

Good leadership is understanding what the expectations are for the job at hand. Too many "leaders" fail miserably because of their ego. But, unfortunately, there is pain and suffering passed on to others. The lesson is don't jump to conclusions and do stupid s**t.

You're right! citizens should be able to have any weapon that our military has, including drones & nukes!

I am looking for a M-2 .50 cal heavy MG. Can I v**e for you so I can get one? And a weapons platform in the air (drone) would be really nice to help me get rid of some of the varmints I have to live with around here. And a small yield tactical nuclear device (15 KT?) would also be pretty cool to have. When are you registering for office?

Penny, you do become tiring because you don't know what you're talking about. Mr. Carson may have at one time been a good dr, I don't argue that. Some people are very intelligent in one portion of their lives and absolute dunces at others. Perhaps he has dementia, I don't know his physical condition but I do know he's made some statements that were completely off the wall. You can look them up, I'm not, I'm tired. If that's his "normal" personality, he's very strange. I know, finally the "right" dug up a black person who was for the GOP ... and he turned out to be a dud politically. I'm not making jokes about him because he probably can't help it but he's just not a smart man politically. I really don't care what you think of Obama or anyone else. Please try to get this thru your head...it does not matter to me, it makes no difference to me...and on and on and on...

Isn't the issue folks that are "politically smart"? Meaning they are the establishment that have become the "elected elite". You know, those folks that we send to do our business in the government and all they do is take care of themselves and give us lip service. Your remarks indicate you are so jaded that making an objective decision is beyond difficult for you and apparently impossible.

You may look at it that way, but the question remains the same...which one will do a better job of administering the nation for four years?

It's that simple.

It's not a protest v**e and it's not a love declaration.

It may not even be a matter of respect, but you have to v**e for one and one only.

Choose the better and hope for the best.

Big difference between "administering" (did you mean "administrating"?) and "leading". To me "administering" connotes the dispensing of medicine. (What pills will Hillery give to us?) Leading on the other hand, is moving people to achieve.
