I would guess that the reason the constant light's didn't work well is simply because the light's weren't hot enough. An 85w light is not much light to push through an umbrella. My understanding about them is the draw back was they made the model uncomfortable because they were so hot. I'd try a min 750W bulb if I was going that way. I really have little use for studio light's of any kind, I don't often shoot indoors and when I do I use a flash and try to bounce off a ceiling.
Yes, but if you want nice, professional results, don't you need some kind of off the camera lighting?

I know this topic has been visited before, but please indulge me. I'm looking for a decent beginner lighting kit. I know I want flourescent lights. 2 umbrellas or shadow boxes and another on a boom. I've researched Cowboy Studio and Linco. I've got a $400 to $500 budget. Any opinions on these or any other brands would be greatly appreciated

Yes, but could you find a lens of this quality without VR?
I believe so. I have the Nikon 80-200 f/2.8. No VR and less than half the price of the 70-200 VRII. Tack sharp and an excellent lens.

You call $2300 cheap! Sure the D750 is a great camera. I guess it comes down to need and budget.

Yes it is a very fine camera indeed, but now that the D750 is out, I would spring for that, as that is by far a superior camera and for what it offers, it is cheap as well!

I bought a used D700 body with approximately 4200 shutter clicks for around $1200 on Ebay. Super clean. Came with an extra Nikon battery. I got it just as the D750's were hitting the market. Great camera. Sold a D300s and this was on my wish list. Waited for the right deal to come along. Bought a Nikon 50 f/1.8 new for $216 from B&H. Great lens. Very sharp. As everyone else stated, if it is clean and relatively low clicks, go for it!

I want to concentrate on outdoor shoots, but would also like to have an indoor studio. Thanks, Capture48.
