Subroto. In addition to the beauty of the subjects, I think you got the portraits just right. Enough detail to make them appealing, but enough softness to look real. I don't know if you did any post processing, but the pictures themselves are about as good as you can get them. Kudos.

Thank you for looking, and the kind comments, Drigby 1 ! Hardly any post, SOOC jpegs are so good. Just a bit of cropping -- very good detail is available, even at ISO 800, and despite a fair bit of cropping, the pictures didn't turn out too shabby, I guess. All credit to the RX100 -- it's a marvel.
BTW, in my book the name Rigby - John Rigby & Company - occupies a place of honour, on account of their legendary sporting rifles. Long ago, I had the once-in-a-lifetime experience of actually firing a .416 Rigby -- unforgettable...

Nice looking daughter, nice that she let you shoot her , my daughter always ducks, now my grandson turns his back, Bob.

Bob, thanks for the kind comment ! Real sorry to hear that the kids won't cooperate -- some people are photophobes, I guess. Perhaps it's social conditioning, a peer level thing.
I conditioned my kids from Day One to consider being photographed as the most natural thing in the world. Now both my son and daughter are perfectly at ease before the lens !

Thank you, Swede. I know William holds you in very high regard. So do I -- I am quite familiar with your amazing work.

I will try to post as and when -- right now, got my hands full with bird photography: it's Springtime in India, after all :-)

Hi subroto mukerji. Thank you for the heads up on Indian birds. Will spend a lot of time there. Good to hear from you again. Sounds like we are alike in our likes. At 76 I am still working part time and go birding when weather permits. Cheers, David

I am running 65 now, but try to work up the energy for a little birding -- men age fast in the tropics. Yes, we do seem to have a lot in common, I too work part time, editing / writing articles, brings in pin money :D
Got a shot this morning of a Green Pigeon amidst green foliage, serving to emphasize its fantastic camouflage. Will post soon ...
I wish you all luck, and do keep in touch

Hi subroto mukerji, Thank you for the interesting reply, I will look up your old posts if I can find my way around this site. Still learning.
I have not read the book you mentioned. I am not as erudite as you, just an average old man. Look forward to seeing more of your posts. David

Heck, David, I'm not erudite, just an old guy who's always loved nature and got lucky with his reading. As for the posts, it's easy -- just go to SEARCH and key in 'Indian Bird Species' -- here is the link:

Great shots of a beautiful talented young lady, subroto mukerji. You must be so proud of your daughter and her accomplishments. I can see why she is crazy for Bingo

Now that is right generous of you, gregoryd45. I suppose all fathers dote on their daughters, but this girl is really special -- as is Bingo. Just wanted to share my real wealth with you and others on the Hog; that wealth goes by the name of happiness. Thank you once again :D
Attaching a pic my daughter took with the Sony...

Just a question, how does the Japanese Post-Meiji Restoration era fit in to China's history?

Indirectly, letmedance. While the Japanese successfully initiated reforms, the Chinese tried and failed. This set in motion a series of events and a burning desire among the masses to emulate the Japanese successes, a trend that later facilitated Mao's ability to lead the Chinese people out of feudalism into a more modern era, albeit at tremendous cost to the old way of life and almost irreversible damage to ancient cultural institutions. The Chinese think in terms of centuries and millennia, unlike the West, so for them (as perhaps appreciated by some western scholars), reform, revolution and democracy is a 'work in progress'. That this is a cyclic process I have no doubts whatsoever. Sixty years ago, China and India were roughly at par. Today, India is way behind. The less said of 'democracy' in India, the better...I'm not dancing for joy, either.
