From: Ed Chenel, a police officer in Australia.

Hi Yanks,

I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.

The first year results are now in: Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent, Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent; Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent!). In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. (Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!)

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in "successfully ridding Australian society of guns."

You won't see this data on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the state Assembly disseminating this information.

The Australian experience proves it. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note Americans, before it's too late!

I wanted the new 300mm Nikkor PF lens and I ordered one in stock from Ebay and the lens was supplied by Best Buy. I discovered two immediate problems: there was no Nikon warranty form with it and the serial number did not have a US in front of it as my other Nikkor lenses have. So is this product guaranteed by Nikon here in the US or did I get defrauded? I am also contacting ebay about this. I paid the full $2000 price. What can I do?

Another issue with best buy is their 10% restocking fee. I do not know if it applies to internet sales though. Just saying.

Grew up there and stayed for 50 years till I retired to NC. I know all those vistas except the porch in Lenox, where I was in the growing years.

Not sure how many of these are recent efforts and how many are reproductions of real nose art - these seem a bit more tame than the photos my dad showed me - I recall the one of the girl with her arms out like she was flying and propellers on her breasts..... THAT would probably not be very PC these days!

The problem with a liberal is that when you research their propaganda and hit them with the truth they have nothing to bite with

Nothing alarming here. This was based on a telephone survey in 1994, the "studies" quoted were supported by Billionaire anti gun lobbyist, Michael Bloomberg(whom has armed bodyguards) Virtually all of these so called studies you use are funded by Bloomberg, the Joyce Foundation ect, therefore are expected to deliver a philosophy which reflects their supporters money. Not hardly a reliable source. the new England Journal of Medicine had an anti study, again supported by Johns-Hopkins which is funded by Bloomberg. CDC is of the same Ilk, they parrot what ever the administration wants them to.

First, you don't know anything about me so don't presume to guess, you'll just look foolish. Second, if the best you can do is spout silly curses, you've just lost the argument. Third, give us some actual facts instead of feelings, why don'tcha.

one can usually make a reasonable judgement of an individuals character or lack thereof by his far left leanings supported by easily debunked statements, so I submit they do know you

I never met an NCO that was not a supporter of the Bill of Rights and Constitution, as well as an accomplished shooter. Somehow I suspect the "ole Sarge" is poseur using a title not earned, either that or a disgrace to the uniform.

Why, darned if here is another one. It deals with Austrailia, mandatory confiscation of firearms and how it had a positive effect on life liberty and safety of citizens.

So, one lonely example against the hundreds of thousands of instances when "good guys" with guns killed their spouses, kids, neighbors, themselves, innocent strangers. Stories like this are overwhelmed by the fact that you are more likely to harm an innocent person with your gun than kill an intruder. Another example of how annecdotes trump reality in America.

Not quite the truth my erstwhile friend, every day of the year there is documented instances where someone has protected themselves from death. I will give you this: The US is number 3 in the world for murders.
I will also provide this: If you take, Chicago, New York, Washington DC and New Orleans out of the equation, the US would be number three from the bottom.

A "35 caliber" handgun? Not familiar with that caliber. Lucky for them they were prepared. There are wild animals out there.

sb, I noticed that right away, misprint? must be 38.
