...... In addition it should be noted that Sony is in more financial trouble than Nikon or Canon. Latest figures give Sony a 44% probability of bankruptcy, with Nikon at 30% and Canon at 14%.
I don't know where you got your figures but the last year results for Sony belie them.

According to Reuters, "Income before taxes for the year ending March 31 came in at 304.5 billion yen ($2.81 billion), a big rise from the 39.7 billion yen recorded during the same period last year. Operating profit rose 329.2 percent to 294.2 billion yen, its largest figure since fiscal 2007." It seems like the 2017 results, although still in profit, will not make as good reading due mainly to a $962-million write-down of paper assets in the Sony Picture Division.

If Sony is facing bankruptcy, that will be a big turn around in one short year although the earthquake will certainly have put a crimp in their style. The thing with Sony is that it has fingers in a lot of pies whereas Canon is pretty much a one trick pony. Canon's main market is shrinking rapidly whereas Sony's Markets are increasing. I'd be surprised if Canon doesn't turn things around but then I was surprised at IBM, at Kodak, at ......

All good points, but Nikon and others use Sony sensors don't they? So do these observations apply to many camera brands?
Just trying to ferret out a bit more understanding!
Yes and last I heard Sony had over 70% of world sales in Sensors; it's probably more now and probably not a healthy situation. Even if Sony make the best Sensors it's essential to have healthy competition.

.... Sony is not, nor has ever been, a camera manufacturer. It is a large consumer electronics company.....!
Not sure from where you derive that information other than that Sony is definitely a LARGE Consumer Electronics Company. If you say not large in DSLR cameras, I'd agree but everywhere else it's far from the case. CaNikon are suffering badly in the current climate whereas Sony's grip on the Mirrorless market continues to strengthen; beats me why CaNikon have totally failed to put in a strong contender.

Peek, that guy kymarto is a PROFESSIONAL Sony hater. All he ever does is bash Sony stuff. He has ZERO credibility when it comes to this subject.

That may be true, but he has lots of credibility in most areas, and you are a Sony fan boy. Which position is more valid than the other?

I dare say you're right Cholly and I guess I shouldn't have risen to the bait but I find it hard when people having little appreciation of the subject, sound off.

I guess you'd have to classify me as a Sony Fanboy as well; when Sony took over the fag end of Minolta, rescued the A-Mount and gave all my gear a new lease of life, I became Sony's biggest fan. That doesn't stop me from recognising their mistakes and castigating them for it but in general, I reckon they are doing a good job in a difficult market.

This seems to be a damaging unsubstantiated comment. I have a 6000 that works well and I updated it to 3.2 without any problem. It's size, weight and performance with Sony's 18-200 lens enable me to take good pictures in almost every condition. Certainly I believe we should comment on real problems and ask for solutions, but I can't see how making general, undocumented complaints helps. Even if our President thinks so.
That's the thing really, thousands of users have a good experience but the odd problem sets some folk off on unjustified tirades. It's simply a fact that any mass produced item will invariably suffer from the odd problem and sometimes, as with cars and driers recently, from disastrous problems.

Not only that, all the a6xxx series sensors suffer from serious banding issues. Sony knows this. I had two a6000s and thought it was a sensor defect, until I did some research and tried out a number of a6000 bodies. All with the same banding, so then I tried an a6300--even worse! I am now using a NEX-7. I am truly disappointed in Sony.
No they don't, suffer from banding that is. What you see is a streaking effect commonly seen on CMOS sensors. The sensitivity to this phenomenon is more or less visible depending on the sensor construction. Each generation of sensor tries to reduce such phenomenon but it is not always possible to do so. The 24Mpix sensor used on the a6000 is more sensitive to this issue compared to previous models. The phenomenon is reproducible on all a6000s using similar condition (bright backlight shot and dark subject in foreground, applying contrast boost in the shadows) but it is mostly noticeable when some post-processing are applied (like for example brightness/contrast change).

Most users will never suffer from the effect but if you do a lot of backlit stuff and push things in post, then switch to a different (more expensive) camera.

I have had Nikons for years without a single problem. My Sonys are full of issues. I'm sorry I ever started with NEX. If I had it to do over again I would definitely go Panasonic or Fuji or Samsung.
Complete rubish, all manufacturers have problems from time to time and I don't see Sony is any worse. In any case, most of Sony's problems come from innovating and pushing the envelope, no bad thing AFAICS.

Is it time to have a discussion about replacing Sonys with real cameras and should it be Canon or Nikon? 🙀

(Tries to sneak away without being noticed.....)
Sure, switch to either one if you want to go down market.

I noticed my A6000 was not uptodate as it had firmware version 2.0 and 3.2 is latest. So I decided to upgrade the firmware this afternoon...everything went smoothly until, just before completion of the upgrade, when an error message appeared and the process was aborted. After that, I was unable to even turn on the camera! Dead in the water! Sony support really tried but couldn't correct the problem and so I am now facing a camera repair. I am considering just selling the camera "as is" on Ebay and purchase a replacement (I"ll be sure it is 3.2!!).

Sorry to hear that Tinplater, maybe fate is prodding you to go for a 6300/6500.

Firmware updates can be a risky business but I've never had a problem with a Sony update and I've had a lot of Sony cameras. Still, there's always a first time for everything.

Yes, I would have said it was not possible for the flash to fire that many full power pulses in so short a time or for the recharge circuit to keep up.

Most of my flaashes are old and won't TTL so I'm in manual flash more often than not.

Yea that's fine if all you want is manual flash triggered optically.
I presumed you wanted some sort of TTL control.

To the best of my knowledge, anything apart from the Nissin Di700A will require a receiver.
I doubt anyone other than Nissin will make a flash compatible with the Air Commander One.
BTW, HSS is supported but when you mix flashes from different systems .... who knows!

No, I'm afraid you need a receiver to trigger the i40.
The Nissin Di700A flash incorporates a receiver so that would work but cheaper to buy a receiver for the i40

I never had a problem. What I always do is to call Sony service first. They ask for the info and then they give me an RMA. They even send me a box with a shipping label.
seems to have the right idea.

I find it hard to believe that this information is not readily available with the sale goods. It is exactly what happens here in the UK, we e-mail the Service Centre in Bridgend, they e-mail a prepaid address label to print out, if the item is out of Warranty they ask for a deposit and that's it. The Service is excellent on the few occasions I've had to use it; I should add that I always take out the Sony five year warranty just in case.

I think a lot of the issues you have stem from the fact that Sony relies on an American repair centre rather than having it's own facility; this may be down to the small volume of sales over there which may make a dedicated facility uneconomic. That used to be the case over here when repairs all went to France which caused problems and was a real issue until Sony corrected the situation with a dedicated shop. Sony sales are much higher over here and in Europe than they are in the US.

I have the Sony A7R2 with the 16/35 F4 lens, along with the 85mm G master lens. And the 55mm lens, I do a lot of photographing of Dogs Greyhounds, I am strongly thinking of tradition in my 85mm lens for the 24-70 G Master lens if the price is Right. I always enjoyed the zoom lens. Any thoughts on the quality of the 24-70 2.8 G Master. Besides the weight and size. Thank you for your Thoughts on this lens
Hell will freeze over before I part with the 85GM; have you considered selling one of your kids?

Yea, what jackpi said and the LA-EA4 adapter will set you back another $350 so unless you already own one of those lenses, forget it.
