I don't have experience with any others, but I'm more than happy with my Canon G9x. I even got a Mark 2 when I accidentally crushed my Mark 1. I've used it a a race track, on vacation, etc. Its low light capabilities were useful at an evening wedding reception. I've blown up cropped images to 20 inches on the long side, plenty of pixels and lens sharpness.

Crushed your Mk I? That's a story I've got to hear!

I knew there would be someone who asked this question. The next morning we spoke with a park ranger and asked him about our experience. He said that this had become a fairly common occurrence, but that these horseback riders from across the river were harmless and only there to pick up the jars of money. He suggested that we do not "purchase" these souvenirs in hope of discouraging such activities.

Hmmm...... I don't want to encourage illegal immigration, but, considering the sense of entitlement some of our citizens have, his entrepreneurial effort, as small as it is, might be a welcome addition to this country.

I am going to be shooting 395 from Topaz to Mono next week -OCT 10 & 11 - I shot Mono at the So shore last year at sundown /dark and would like to do it again this year - any tips on locations for shooting tofas as foreground and stars in background. Last year I didn't have the time to spend as I do this year. Mono is going to be my
'night" shots - Bodie and Conway Summit, and hwy 88- 89 395 are going to get my attention going and coming along- with Buckeye and Travertine Hot Springs.
PMs welcome

There is a extension piece available for the A6XXX cameras that extends the entire length of the bottom of the body and adds 5/8" without interfering with access to the battery and its very light, less than $50.

Thank you for that information. My problem, however, is that I cannot wrap my fingers tightly enough to wrap them around the grip. The problem is that, if I insert my fingertips into the gap and then wrap my hand around the grip, I have found an excellent way to hold the camera with one hand, but my knuckles will start locking up within a few minutes. I have had to pull the grip from my hand, and, on two occasions (yeah, I'm a slow learner), I have not been able to straighten my fingers for an hour or more. The alternative, not inserting my fingers into the gap, does not hurt, but I have a poor grip on the camera. BTW, I always use a wrist strap, at the least.

Can I get some recommendations for a pocket-sized point and shoot for my husband? He is not interested in a DSLR but he has a very good eye and needs a decent camera. He is using an old Nikon Coolpix that is wearing out. Thanks.

Panasonic LX100. Short zoom range, but great pictures.

Around October 16 my wife and I will be spending 5 days in the vicinity of Big Bend National Park. I plan to work on my landscape photography, as well as my night photography. I welcome any comments or recommendations on areas of landscape interest as well as advice on photo techniques which might be peculiar to this area. I will be using a A7R3 and a Canon 5D Mark 4, with wide angle zoom and standard zoom lenses for both. I would be remiss if I did not try to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and experience available on the site.

Thank you,
John

Do you need anyone to carry gear, set up tents, gather firewood, dig latrines, etc? Have sleeping bag: will travel.

Thank you very much for your input.

What does it actually mean when a considerably smaller sensor has a considerably larger megapixel count, from the same year (and therefore presumably similar technology although not necessarily)? How can I make sense of that?

One very quick guess. Are the aspect ratios the same. A 4:3 aspect ratio can significantly reduce the pixel count from a 3:2.

I have had two Sony a6000's. I loved both cameras (including the kit lenses). Unfortunately the grips were too small/tight for my arthritic hands; shooting for more than a few minutes induced painful cramping. That is my ONLY complaint. Although I have asked on several forums, I cannot find out if the grips on the latest a6XXX series have larger grips. Specifically, I need more room between the inside of the grip and the lens housing.

Although I usually shoot in Aperture Priority or Manual, I usually carry my camera in Automatic mode. I've seen too many (good) photographers adjusting their cameras while good shots got away. I will grant you that my quick shots may not be that good, but at least I have something where many don't.

I have the Panasonic LX100, the rebadged version of the D Lux 109. I am finally satisfied with a larger format pocketable (big pockets) camera. It has the advantage of being light enough to wear around my neck all day long. I use in in conjunction with a 1/(2/3) Panasonic with a 600 mm zoom. Although not as solidly built as my IIIf, I see the typically Leica attention to detail in both Panasonics.

I found the donut effect so distracting in by bird photography that I deleted all the pictures taken with the mirror lens. I eventually sold the lens (a Soligar, I believe) for a pittance at a swap meet.

No one even mentioning the Zeiss ZX1... Looks really interesting just looking at pics and specs. Prob. not for those on a tight budget.

Yes. Unfortunately, I believe it's a $€paratist movement.

I mostly take photos of birds and wildlife and, although I own a Canon 500mm 1:4 L IS lens and tripod with Wimberly head (heavy but doable on short hikes), I find myself using it less and less. My go to set-up is a 7D II with a 100-400 zoom 1:4.5 L II. This is so superior to my former set-up- a 7D I and 100-400 I that I am not using the 500 mm. Does this make any sense?

You're traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead - your next stop, the Hedgehog Zone. Welcome.

Sorry, but it is not clear to me whether you are pointing out an OT post which was a direct reply (as is this one to you) to nadelewitz which was-and-is OT (but, so were posts made by unencumbered left handed people's remarks which ignored the OP's granddaughter's limitations which YOU apparently chose to overlook) ... n'est-çe pas? ...

... OR, if you have chosen to take extracted comments which were originally a reply to nadelewitz and mistakenly chosen to interpret them as being to you.

I did call-you-out for making your OT post which "adds less than my first two post in this thread did."

Regardless, I'm not 'p...d at' you unless nadelewitz is an alternate nom de plume which you use for additional posts in this Forum AND that is why you did-and-have not directly criticized him for his OT remarks.

To return to the original, the OP stated his granddaughter has "little" use of her right hand. If she has any motor control, a solution may be available. In addition, stroke victims can train parts of their bodies to accomplish certain tasks; my ex-wife was able to do so following three major strokes. That's not exactly ignoring the problem; it's confronting the problem instead of giving up. That's why I'm still hoping for a response from the OP (who is welcome to use PM if he wishes).

Sorry for the confusion with regard to my re-posting my earlier post ...

It was re-posted merely to demonstrate to BHC that I was on topic in my initial posts in this thread.

Rants aside............

"Sheesh ...

... I guess you are the type of person who some other people might label as a "Snowflake."

Wear it with pride!"

On topic?

OK, you're p...ed at me. I'm sorry about that. So start another thread and call me every name you can think of; I won't even argue with you. You can state your opinion of me without argument!

But, for now, can we get back to this topic? As I recall, we're talking about a partially disabled hand. Perhaps I missed the OP's response as to the extent of disability. If so, please point it out to me. It may make a huge difference! Thank you.
