Alaska has some incredible photo ops, and this is no different! We always have a white Christmas in the Interior, and my friend's cabin in Fox, AK, makes for a beautiful holiday scene.
I was having fun zooming out with my D300, and it created an interesting look!
Exploding Tree!
If you sell some stuff, guess what? You'll buy more to replace it, just like me!!!
Wow, some interesting answers! I started shooting film with my first simple camera as a pre-teen, then graduated to better films, ultimately to digital. I'll be 65 in July, so I'd guess more than 100,000 pushes of the shutter button!
I purchased one about 15 years ago, and for quite a long time, it was my go-to lens. I'm still using it, and I have no major complaints. Lens creep is something that I deal with, but nothing is perfect! I understand the new versions are much better than the antique that I'm using, and probably lighter weight.
My camera(s) goes with me everywhere. My best efforts come from seeing something and seizing the moment. I live in Alaska, so regardless of the season (long winter, short spring, short fall, shorter summer) opportunities are daily. Having the equipment ready at a moment's notice, having an eye for the "good stuff," and making a commitment to capture it, are what I like most. I send many pictures weekly to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, and it really pleases me to see my pix published that are shared with everyone who reads the paper!
For real? Sounds like something written for kids in kindergarten. It's true, it doesn't get dark enough during the summer, but I think they could have worded it differently.
Hi Gene, I was using an ISO of 800, F4.0 (Tokina 12-24), depending on the intensity between 20 and 30 seconds, manual focus infinity, auto white balance.
Bruce with Canon, here is a shot from earlier last year, that I converted to black & white. It is hanging on my wall in a 13X19 format!
Black & White Aurora
I believe it's pretty much the same regardless of the area. It might be different with the South Pole version, but I don't know.
I had a front row seat from my yard at 2:30 am AK time, for some spectacular aurora viewing!
The 2013 Open North American Championship is being held in Fairbanks, AK this weekend. It's always great fun to see the mushers and their teams competing in the short 20 mile race in Fairbanks.
Haven't lost him yet, but he does disappear briefly from time to time!
We have about 2' of snow on the ground, and winter has only just begun!!!
Our dog Ceasar way over his head in snow
Good advice, MT. You get what you pay for!
