A few years ago those things were bringing a lot of money!!

Whoever owned this place must have figured on capturing the market...I quit counting these things at 100.

Hmmmm. I'm beginning to detect a little personal history coming to the fore.

Tom, how could you "sink" so low?

I don't know, Papa. I just took crazy. Thank goodness they weren't tubs, I would have had to take a bath.

Guaranteed to be hallucinogenic! I'm tripping just looking at them!

I believe you, Chief. Memories of the past began to overwhelm me. My wife said if I began howling at the moon, she was calling for help.

LMAO!

A very logical response. I took to some open cackling until some stares from my wife calmed me down.

I love B&W....shoot a fair amount myself. In this case, though, I'd stick with color. That's purely subjective, others may feel differently.

The B&W versions seem a bit "washed out ". Working on the contrast a bit would probably help that a lot,

Unless they're hallucinogenic, I wouldn't mess with them.

I definitely remember the Chaparral and Jim Hall. There was a photo I believe in a magazine with Jim Hall and supposedly Dan Gurney both down low looking under a car and Dan asking, "Jim are you sure that nickel rolled under here?"

I laughed at that. I imagine there were times when Hall wished he could find some nickels...considering what he had wrapped up in those Chaparrals.

Tom, I've only seen these monsters on the track in some vintage racing videos, but one did appear in the Hall of Fame building at the Sebring track. Those cars were truly monsters that required very brave drivers with all those horses right behind their backs! I can somewhat relate to their experience as I once owned an 18 ft Flatbottom boat with a 482 c.i. Chevy sitting right behind me.

Well, Bob, I'm placing you in that same group of brave souls. Anybody who would strap on the rig you drove unquestionably had to have cajones the size of watermelons. I've owned a couple of fast boats, but nothing in the league of that flatbottom critter you had.

Great set of a great car, Tom, I witnessed the Chapparal of Jim Hall and Hap Sharp dominate the Can-Am race at Riverside International Raceway Calif. in person, they finished first and second. I read that the transmission, even though shiftless
was not an automatic, but CVT, constantly variable transmission. The purpose of the Cam-am series was suppose to be a run what you brung series, then the regulations started to popup especially with the Chapparal sucker cars, then the Porsche
Panzer car of Mark Donahue and Penske, I think that is what killed the Cam-Am series. Can-Am series was my favorite racing series of all time.

Hi, Earnest.

I was also a huge fan of The Cam-Am series. I believe that the root cause of that series' demise revolved around economics. There were not enough teams that could afford to field a competitive car to challenge the Porsches. As you pointed out, the run what you brung concept faded away, What remained was an economically unsustainable format. Damn shame

I like your photo. I spent one year photographing old buildings, abandoned vehicles, tractors, etc. in Eastern Iowa.

That kind of stuff gets in your blood, doesn't it, Jeff? I've been doing it for years.
