Funny, looks like the same kind of duck I just took this picture of! I was also wondering what kind it is!

Very nice pictures! I grew up right by Petoskey. A half hour north of Gaylord.

Raw isn't just a file format, it's a way of life. Capturing in RAW and editing the results moves the photographer from a entry-level understanding of focal lengths and camera brands into a higher form of existence, giving a deep meaning to every shutter release and mouse click. I edit, therefore I am.

I feel like I need a cigarette, and I don’t even smoke!🤣

I see people already gave you wonderful suggestions for photography, but if you get to Ouray, get some Scrap cookies at Mouses Chocolates. They are the best cookies on the planet.

👍! Pretty much ANYTHING from Mouses is the best!

The San Juan mountains and the area from Durango to Ouray might be worth considering, the drive between the two towns is spectacular and in places not for the acrophobic. There is also a narrow-guage train with an old coal-fired engine that I think still runs from Durango to Silverton through some spectacular country, not sure if they will be able to run it this summer with the covid issues.

Yes! Love this area!👍 Also, the area just north around Ridgeway to Telluride and the Dallas divide and up over owl creek pass/Cimarron river where the original “True Grit” was filmed.

Here are a few photos I took back in October of 2011 in that area. All I had at the time was a somewhat decent Lumix point and shoot.

Thanks for this. I have been wanting to ask why anyone uses focus stacking, rather than just use more depth of field?

Hi Rustfarmer. This is something I too have been interested in and trying to learn about. From what I understand (and the more experienced on here might provide a better explanation) all lenses suffer from a type of distortion called “diffraction” although a smaller aperture does increase depth of field, it also introduces more diffraction that becomes visible after a certain point of aperture size reduction. This varies from lens to lens.

For recording a sharp image front to back especially when there are extreme foreground and background elements you wish to have sharply in focus and not experiencing diffraction, multiple shots can be merged using an aperture that does not introduce noticeable diffraction, especially in the distant elements of the image. Often this is around f8 to f11 however again it varies from lens to lens. This is my understanding of why focus stacking is used.

I love those folks. I've relied on their repair dept. for numerous cleanings. Joe, the owner, has repaired cameras for me and rebuilt my Leica IIIf. One of my cameras has a repair sticker in it from 1978. They are my source for chemistry and various sundries. Though I do have to say their used equipment section has been put to good use, as well.

Thank you so much! I drive past often when I am on a supply run for work but have never been inside. I will definitely stop before long. Might make for a o opportunity to get out of the house while I am still recovering.

Also, thanks again to all for all of the nice welcomes an photo comments! I have been a bit afraid to join and post and not sure if I should post photos that I had enhanced colors and dynamics in.

Hi Bob! You are pretty regular here! And you really seem to know your stuff.
What is your take on Tempe Camera?
Trust them for a good cleaning? Are their classes and outings pretty good?
I want to learn stuff.
