These turkey's with a short beard on there breast are Jakes male turkeys in there first year. older male turkeys have longer beards 8 to 12 inches depending on there age they are called tom turkeys. hen turkeys do not normally have beards although there have been one found here & there with a beard. in the spring turkey hunting season hunters are not allowed to shoot a beardless bird. this protects the hens so they can lay there eggs & hatch there young.
Thank you for taking a look and all the good info. The west end of the park is state wildlife area where turkey hunting is allowed, I think with shotgun or bow only, no rifle's.
