Hmm .. Aperture value is measured by the amount of light passing through the lens, not the size of the hole. So f4 is the same on any lens regardless of number of elements or what batch number it came from.

So whoever told you that one was pulling your leg.

Aperture value (fstop) determines the amount of light that goes through the lens using a mathematical formula that determines the size (area) of the hole so f4 is the same on any lens.

Tstop is the fstop corrected for any light loss during transmission through a lens.

Generally still photography cameras use a lens measured in fstops and video/movie cameras use a tstop lens.

Google and wikipedia are your friend.

It seems like in the "old days," the lens (glass) was one of the most important factors (if not the most important) in getting a good image. But, in the digital age, I was wondering how much a camera manufacturer's sensor plays in producing a quality image. I understand the number of megapixels plays some role, but what is your opinion of the importance of the sensor technology itself - assuming the number of megapixels remains somewhat constant?

You need to change your post heading. Sensors are analog devices just like film.

Looking at this thread I sincerely wonder if this is a Social Media site.
It looks to me that Twitter or Facebook would be the more appropriate forum for this kind of posts.

This is a social media site that deals primarily with photography.

It will only work with Full Frame Cameras.
Cropped Sensor Cameras do not allow for AF Micro-Adjustment.

Here is a link to Reikan FoCal lens calibration software.

According to the web site link you posted, you are wrong. Focal lists crop sensor cameras as compatible with their software. As Bill Emmett said in his post, Focal works very well on a Canon 7d.

Don't believe the stuff written above about TIFF files; Tiff is saveable uncompressed, but once saved you lose all the advantages of RAW files as all data becomes part of the TIFF and any editing will result in data loss. With RAW, only the basic tonal data are stored in the RAW file itself; everything else is in sidecar files which can be edited without any sort of data loss.

The part about image loss is not true according to wikipedia.

"The ability to store image data in a lossless format makes a TIFF file a useful image archive, because, unlike standard JPEG files, a TIFF file using lossless compression (or none) may be edited and re-saved without losing image quality. This is not the case when using the TIFF as a container holding compressed JPEG."

I tried for hours today to take this shot with the white background white. I tried using a grey card. I tried underexposing. I tried having separate lights to illuminate only the white background.
I tried different flash levels for the TTL flash and the 2 slave flashes. I had the two slaves flashes flash through white umbrellas. I even tried HDR. Finally, I brightened my less than satisfactory background in photoshop.

Anyone with any experience on how to make white backgrounds white, please tell me the secret.

I have attached 2 examples of post processing. One the background is more white, but at the cost of colour saturation of the flowers. The others has good saturation of the flowers but at the cost of an even less white background.

Grrrrrr. Help please.

Here's just about everything you need to know about 'hi-key' white backgrounds.

Depending on the intended usage, professionals have watermarked their photographs for decades. Look through your grandparents photos that were done by a studio.

PS: Your "signature" is in the exif data...no need for a garish watermark.[/quote]

For those people mentioning exif and metadata, I will be glad to ship you one of my prints and if you can send the exif information back to me I won't invoice you.
