To VR or not to VR? If you can afford it do it. I own 4 lens with VR and have never regretted the purchases. I shoot is all kinds of different lighting conditions. Just back from Egypt and in the tombs at the Valley of the Kings lighting was very poor, bright at bottom and dark at the top. At times you were shooting at a slight angle up so to keep every thing sharp I was using a smaller aperture (5.6 to 11) ISO below 1000 so my shutter speed at times was a 15 of a second when I was bracketing. You couldn't use a tripod or monopod in the tombs and you had to buy a photo ticket in order to take photos in the tombs. I like to print large so a sharp picture is critical. I printed a panorama from the inside of the Coliseum in Rome that was 24" by 6' that was made from only 5 frames. Did VR make the picture that much sharper I don't know but I am pretty sure it did for my Egypt pictures. My attitude is you buy the best lens available and the body for what you mainly shoot.

Your computer is an accident waiting to happen. At least mirror your hard drive and backup weekly if not more often. HDs are cheap enough now that I would recommend setting up a raid system. RAID 5 or even a RAID 6, with a 5 you can lose a drive and keep on working, with a 6 you can lose two and keep on working. Replace the drives and they will rebuild themselves. I use two raid 6s and over the last 10 years have lost drives but not data.

Horse Shoe Bend near Page, Arizona at sunset. The sun sets right over the point. Makes for a great photo.

Being a long time user of Nikon. (D100, D2X, D3, D4, D5 and now the D850) I ordered on mine on the 18th of Dec. and received it on the 21st of Dec. from Adorama. I have gotten into shooting panoramas, most of the time I am using 9 to 12 frames to compose my pano of 24" by 72" and bought the 850 for 45 megapixels for the D5 is only a 20 megapixel camera. The ISO range on the D850 does not come close to the D5 when it comes to low light conditions. With the 850 at ISO 100 I have a much larger image to work with and able to maintain the quality in my prints. Yes I print my own on a Canon iPF8400 and it does a great job. Two things to think about, lens make the picture and what I mean by that is buy the best lens made not the one you think you can afford. Sure you may need to save for a longer period of time but it is well worth the time. The lens makes the body not the other way around. Buy the body to capture the picture your after. My reason for buying the D5 was I shoot a lot of high school football at night and most of the time under very poor lighting. ISO 4000 on the D5 there is very little noise I can not say the same for the 850 under the same conditions. Put a so so lens out front and you will get a so so picture no matter what body you use. Put the best lens out front and you will get the best picture the body can deliver. Sold the D2X but still using the D3, 4 and 5. Sorry about the grammar but I barely made it out of high school.

Google bought Nik software and now offer it free, not sure if it is still available. Dfine is part of Nik software and does the best job I ran across for noise reduction. I also shoot HS football at night and have ran into all different kinds of poor field lighting.
