thank you for your advice, I am using a tripod, no filter, shot was in midday sun, will stop down and shoot between 500 and 600mm, don't understand the "calibrate lens to body in focus length most used" what is that process?

Yes, I use a carbon fiber tripod with a Lensmaster gimbal with a gallon jug of water hung underneath. appreciate the info.

shooting with a D5100 and want to open up to f5 on this lens, tried the command dial and can only open to f6.3, what am I doing wrong? take a look at the hummer pic and tell me if there is anything I can do to sharpen up or is this the best I can get out of this lens? appreciate your comments.

Thanks for the info, yes it was in the wrong mode. put the flash on manual and if fired flash and shutter just fine. This was my first time in using the remotes.

when using the subject remotes on my D5100 with the SB-600 speedlite, I fire the remote, the ready lite on the flash b links red but it does not fire. If I remove the flash it works fine. any suggestions?

I have this combo, recently acquired so I don't have any technical advise, but so far it seems to do just fine.
