Excellent in all respects, especially the 1940 -41 Chevrolet with white side walls and fender skirts... and blue dot tail lights (Western Auto store?)

Stephan, I saw that pigeon while I was framing the photo. I was hoping that it would stay there and continue to look in the same direction as the peacock. Fortunately, it worked. Relying on unpaid, spontaneous appearing models is always a difficult situation. Thanks for looking and commenting.

The pigeon on the roof is certainly eying the mural peacock.

A great shot.

Thank you, David. There are lots of those tall buildings in the area. They tend to become somewhat unnoticeable with all that is going on around them, traffic, people walking, etc. Thanks for looking and commenting.

Good job! (I'm sure I've driven by that building a few times but never paid it much attention.)

Scotty, The scene contains dark shadows to very bright sunlit clouds.

You are apparently and hopelessly locked in a mindset that wishes to negate the importance of ETTR/ETBR. That is more difficult to explain than the techniques used in this photograph. At this point, I'll rely on a quote from Ansel Adams. "When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence".

That’s still a very narrow DR. Anyone could have taken that on a JPEG straight from the camera.

Try one where the scene has a wide DR.

Ok, then I guess I'll just have to use a color image.

It's really easy to convert an image to dramatic B&W when the shot includes the blue sky. I don't have a sample that includes clouds but here is one of an egret.

The original image has a very narrow DR despite being taken in broad daylight. You can see from the RawDigger histograms that, assuming that middle gray is within the 1000-2000 range, it falls naturally from about exposure zone III to the middle of exposure zone VIII.

It was exposed without metering, on manual per the Sunny 16 rule at ISO 400, 1/800 @ f/11.

With Active-D lighting I would have had to expose about 1/2 stop less to avoid the blinkies. But this demonstration is academic. If I had wanted a B&W image I would have simply captured the image on film, Fuji Across 100.

Nice photos.

But, I'm surprised that anyone who is out "mounting lions", hopefully female, shouldn't be afraid of something like a coyote.

Here the local news has been about coyote's sneaking up on kids entering school. One child was bitten last week and others have reported problems. It's on the news so all are aware. When I glanced out my window this morning and observed a coyote stalking a group of ducks I of course grabbed my camera and headed out. Now one of the problems with Canon's 5DSR is the shutter in quite mode is louder than a fart in church. I had a scare about a month ago when out after mounting lions, and again today.....

I am thinking of getting a tripod and using a remote shutter so I can have a bit of a head start.

I am headed to Grand Cayman in a month and one of the excursions we are signed up for is a bioluminescent bay. I would love to try and get this captured and assume it's a lot easier said than done. I'm wondering if there is an adequate underwater camera I can purchase (or rent) specifically for this and any additional snorkeling I may do. The nearest place I've found to rent camera equipment is a 90 minute drive from where I live. I currently shoot with a Cannon 60d and really don't think I'm willing to risk taking my good equipment on the water. Any advise you seasoned photographers can give me is appreciated. I'm hoping there is a lightweight affordable waterproof camera that will help me here. Is that asking too much????
