I wonder if the lack of comments is because the model is my wife.

How do you do multiple layers of the available scan?

There's various ways depending on your editing program, but effectively you are cut and pasting layers of the original image (copy of, lol) then adjusting each layer to get the best out of that setting. Erase the bits that you don't like, then move onto the next layer copy, tweak that differently then repeat until you're happy, save with a new name then either flatten or export depending on your needs. Guess there's plenty of you tube videos to learn from. As ever never modify your original file without first saving under a different name. It's really a case of trial and error but unlike a dark room it's non destructive and cheap!

Being stranded indoors because of Mother Nature playing the Grinch with the weather in the Upper Midwest for Christmas, was wondering...spent 8 days in AZ and UT and NV for my birthday, the master image folder from that trip has around 2400 files in it; had I had only my 35mm film Nikon instead, wonder how much it would have cost in terms of both film and processing; for sure would have been very selective about what I took pics of.

You probably wouldn't have taken 2400 frames...

If I can find it. It is strange that it doesn't seem to be with all the others I took of her when she used to pose. Maybe I should not have admitted who it was on here. /

Too late to worry about that now but not sure why you're concerned?
You can also try multiple layers of your available scan with different adjustments but you're obviously more limited with the range offered by the original scan?

If you find the negative, try scanning at different settings in the 'curves' then overlay the resulting shots to get the best out of each scan...

I never noticed this before. I'm printing a holiday songbook, and as the printer prepared each page, it "flattened" it. I know that Photoshop does that, but a printer? It chose "Custom 100%" as the size, and it printed fine. I'll check other sizes and see what it does.

But that wasn't all. This Epson tank printer is fanatical about having enough ink in the tanks. Letting them run dry can cause problems. After printing two pages, it stopped and told me to add ink. It still had at least half an inch of ink in each tank, but it wanted more, so I filled them. The original bottles have now been emptied into the printer - after 4,851 pages. All the tanks are almost full, so I'm going to get over 8,000 pages out of the ink that came with the printer. I have the ET-2760, which has been discontinued. The ET-2800 ($230) looks similar to mine, and I bet it uses different ink. Yes, it does. Mine uses 502, and this one uses 522. All Epson has to do is discontinue the 502 ink, and everyone will have to buy a new printer.
I never noticed this before. I'm printing a holid... (show quote)

Other suppliers are available... And at least you don't suffer from the chip upgrades that prevent you using non original makers cartridges.
Biggest problem with my ET-7750 is it keeps smudging black ink over prints from the heads after picking up from build up over the waste tank...

Try some blue colour in the eyes?
It's a good image though, would make a nice print.

This reminds me of a conversation with a cheese seller, acting stupid I asked which cheese was best, he replied in general the best cheeses are those without added extras, ie with chilli etc added. This was because cheese makers reserve their best cheeses for the 'pure' market where taste and texture is king, the other cheeses are blended with extras to make them 'more palitible'.
Photos are like cheeses the best pictures are those where the photographer/model/gear (and weather if applicable) are working in perfect harmony. They don't need much if any artistic intervention post shot. But like flavoured cheeses, other shots can be used if you know how to enhance them.
I would guess that this isn't Toxdocs best shot of his model but could still be one of his favourites as it invokes memories for him.
This is perhaps one of those 'old' shots that the photographer might look back and wish he could have treated the negative/print differently partly through experience gained in the meantime.
Would a new scan help? Yes, even if he can't improve the resultant image he will have gained more experience, and he will have lots of fun trying and awaken more memories in the process.
By itself the current image is not one that will stop the viewer in their tracks, but for the patient viewer it's well worth a look.

Sorta, I always liked photography (got my first camera as my HS graduation gift, Nikon FG), but didn't really get a "Modern" camera (Canon Eos 5) and lenses till a few years after I graduated college in 1990 and my first nudes with this model was 1996. Just a hobbyist, never really was as active as I would have liked, just winged it doing all kinds of stuff for years. Few model shoots, few landscapes, my kids, travel, tried astro eventually. Maybe shoot 4-5 times a year, 2-3 with a model. Would love to be able to have the experiences of many here of a studio or a list of models to work with (or the money to pay them), but maybe someday!

Having your heart in something you love is much more important then studios etc and it shows in your pictures!

That's always a bonus to have a supportive wife.
You say this was one of your early images with a model so I'm assuming you had experience in general photography before that as these images are to be proud of...
