I'm not trying to sway opinions on any workflow for any person. I found this series of tutorials for Darktable for anyone interested in, or currently using Darktable. If there are other resources out there, I'd love for feedback as the learning process is never ending.

Do you have to be retired or active military to use Space-A ?

Space-A is for both active duty and retired service members. Although I am retired now, I haven't used it since I was active duty, so I'm not sure how the waiting lists work on this side. I do know it is free for both active and retired along with their dependents. It's a gamble on availability, so if you have some place you MUST be by a specific time, I wouldn't suggest it. But if you have no time commitments, it's a great way to travel pretty much around the world.

American Eagle, American's regional service, consisted of something like 7 small airlines, including Piedmont. For business purposes they have consolidated under the name Envoy.

Envoy Air (formerly American Eagle Airlines) is the only subsidiary entirely owned by AA. But you are correct in that Envoy and the other (non-owned) subsidiaries do fly under American Eagle brand.

I fixed that problem, I can fly on a C5 Galaxy

We took advantage of Space-A for years from Dover to Rota, Spain and back. The last time we took that flight, the plane heading for Dover kept having "issues" on the tarmac in Spain, so we had to fly a KC-135 to Pittsburgh, rent a car and drive to Dover to get our car. Still thousands cheaper than commercial, and you can take whatever you want on board within safety limitations.

You need to contact Envoy Air ( https://www.envoyair.com/ ). They are the American Airlines subsidiary that flies the Embraer Regional Jet 145 and 175.

They are one subsidiary. Piedmont is a profit sharing partner with AA and has a large portion of the business in and out of Charlotte depending on destination.

And as of 01 August when I flew Piedmont/AA on the ERJ145, there were very few people that had to check their luggage. My Vanguard backpack was never looked at twice for this consideration, and it's pretty bulky as it carries two bodies, several lenses, and my laptop and all accessories.

I have 2 G Technology drives hooked to my iMac “ all the time”. One is for my LR catalogue and the other is the “ back up” of the first drive. Should I leave both hooked up all the time?

It's not necessary to leave them connected 24/7. Stuff like "stiction" are legacy terms used with older technology from the 80's and very early 90's that was prone to failure from heads resting on platters for too long and getting, well "stuck". Newer technology isn't as finicky and has been designed to eliminate decades worth of issues that have been identified.

I keep a master backup of all my data on an external drive in my gun safe and pull it out for backups once a month (I usually forget, so it's more like every 3-5 months).

See above post. DIGIC7 which enhances low light and updates to DPF ad other features. Not an update but new Software release which can't be upgraded on cameras with DIGIC 6. That and teh top screen and easire rear dial did it for me.

Canon posted the T7i as having the DIGIC7 processor. I hope they aren't lying to us all :/

Great set of shots! I moved to the panhandle about 5 years ago and decided I didn't want to leave.

Open source software is often developed by grad students with undergrads. The heavy lifting functionality gets the grades and the thesis - the higher the degree the heavier the lift needed to get it. So the main or heavy lift functionality gets done better than any commercial software.

Absolutely agree that the trend has been this way for years. But as mainstream distros (Ubuntu) funded by private companies such as Canonical, the long term support and drive to improve the UI is starting to take a larger focus. Not every Linux distro has this fortune, but the larger distros (CentOs, RedHat, Ubuntu, Mint - built of Ubuntu LTS) are providing "some" incentives for those grad students to continue on in an industry that is growing at a slow, but steady rate.

The distros mentioned above are all free to download and use, but provide a paid service component for those that decide they need/want it.

As far as software, open-source depends on the community it serves. As more users of software are maturing with backgrounds in software development, the gap is closing on functionality to their paid counterparts.

I am not against subscription based software, or even Microsoft and Apple. But there is a significant upswing in the FOSS community that really is attracting people with some or little computer programming skills.

Subscription based business model is in fact the next evolution, and has many benefits that can't be overlooked. Businesses can now keep up-to-date software at a substantial cost reduction for their employees. The great thing is that this does trickle down to individual users in an increased cost-reduction as well.

On the other side of this, the open software development movement (FOSS), is making substantial strides for those that want to break away from traditional pay-to-use software and operating systems. Just in the past 3-5 years, open source development has made such an impact. There are still limitations to a lot of open source programs, but with the rise in popularity of Linux (Ubuntu, Mint) for everyday users, more members are joining communities that really increase the value of the software being designed and used.

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

May I ask what your setting for this photo and lens?

Thank you so much. I'm still learning and try so many settings. The exif from this is:

Canon T7i w/EF-S 24mm f/2.8
ISO 400
Exposure 4 seconds
Aperature f/9

I purchased the EF-S 24mm looking for a general purpose "everyday" lens. It has become my absolute favorite for lower light photography and pairs very well with the Canon T7i.

I took this during my most recent annual trip to Spain to visit the in-laws. They have a house near the beaches of Zahora, Spain. This photo was taken as a last minute while I was trying to find good placement for the nearby lighthouse.

So many IoT devices that will be affected, but I'm glad the vulnerability was discovered before widespread use of the malware.

This looks like things that users should be aware of for numerous security related reasons.
From the Canon website: https://global.canon/en/support/security/d-camera.html

* Ensure the suitability of security-related settings of the devices connected to the camera, such as the PC, mobile device, and router being used.
* Do not connect the camera to a PC or mobile device that is being used in an unsecure network, such as in a free Wi-Fi environment.
* Do not connect the camera to a PC or mobile device that is potentially exposed to virus infections.
* Disable the camera’s network functions when they are not being used.
* Download the official firmware from Canon’s website when performing a camera firmware update.

Hello all,
I have recently upgraded (re-installed) Darktable to version 2.6.2 on Linux Mint 19.2. While trying to set up some customization in the modules, I discovered that the SVG file that holds watermark information doesn't exist. In fact, the entire ~/.config/darktable/ directory is missing.

I have searched on the internet and can't seem to find a solid answer to this:

Can I just make the darktable directory and add an SVG file? Or, do I have to compile darktable from a stable release opposed to the flathub repository install am currently using?

Thanks all!
