The family went out shopping today and I hide in the shop and finished a few carvings. I am proud of this one. I did all the painting on it.:):) I found the idea in a gift shop, but it was smaller. I used one of my old boots for the pattern.:):)

That is awesome! What is the wood you used?

I like the Canon, because I already have it.

The truth is, I want a zoom that will cover 17-135mm and would be willing to trade just about all of my lenses for it as long as it is fast enough (f2.8, with good glass).

olc

Someone else suggested, and I'd agree, pick up the Canon 18-135...it's a kit lens and is excellent, and covers the range you mention. I have one that came with my 60d, and it would work well for you I'd think, and it won't break the bank. You'll be taking some great shots while you gain experience and get ready for the next jump.

These little children are perfect examples of good parenting! Extremely polite, always happy and laughing and smiling and are continually hugging each other. Lila, the little one (TR) wearing the red knit cap came over this past Valentines day with her big dog, Onyx, just to wish me a Happy Valentine's Day! How special is that? Yep, I'm a blessed man to have these special little angels in my life.

Here's a photo I took this past summer when two of them were out creating some sidewalk art. I printed four copies off and gave them to their parents, two for them and two for the grandparents. The happiness shown in this photo is so stunning! I have my own copy hanging on my wall!

How very fortunate you are to be surrounded by those kids! And their families. Wonderful and glad you shared these photos!

That is awesome. Love it when just the right thing comes along at just the right time. I think I'd print that photo off and give to the parents.
Perfect for Christmas! Merry Christmas! Hope you have a healthy happy New Year!

Nice shot! I tried last night but the cloud cover here was just too much. Merry Christmas to you and your family also!

Merry Christmas everyone! Wish I could get all of you your favorite lens or camera, but sharing this photo is the best I could do for ya. I've been cutting these things out for over 20 years.

This particular Creche is made from pine. The pine came from one of the original timbers in the Dan River Cotton Mill in Danville, VA (where I'm from). The mill was built in 1884. For those of you who are woodworking enthusiasts as much as hoggers, as I am, the pine timber was 11 1/2" wide by 7 1/2" thick. In that timber, using a magnifying glass, I counted 244 rings. That is old growth timber that cannot be found today.

Merry Christmas everyone! I wish for all of you that there will be peace in your home and comfort for those who are restless and anxious for whatever the reason. Blessings and peace be yours.

What a fantastic shot! Tell me, was he very hard to work with in getting him to pose like that for you? Looks like he paid attention so very well!

Nice shots! I like 'em. Brings back a lot of memories for me. The first church I served out of seminary 30 years ago was right over there on that smaller mountain!
