Great shots and thanks for giving the location. I think I'll do a little research on this old guy. Gotta be some interesting rail history here.
You got good advice on scanning equipment if that's what you really want to do. I started that way with my large collection before realizing it was going to take up a lot of my personal time. Time better spent with my A77. The various scanning companies and local camera stores often have sales prices if you do a little research. Watch Groupon as well. You should easily get 2000 slides done for $400 if you look around. I used several vendors, all with good success.
Wonderful photos. Thanks for sharing.
My first car was a new '58 Impala, solid black/black interior, but did not have the red stripe. I don't think that was a factory option. The cost of the car (again, brand new) was less than $3000. The standard V-8 at that time was the 348 c.i., also a new introduction, but I ordered it with the 283 c.i. instead. Standard shift, no ac, positraction rear end. I soon added Hedman headers and straight pipe mufflers. Sounded great. Yep, a hot car. Unfortunately, the few pics I had of it have long since been lost. But it stays in my dreams to this day.
Frapha said it best. Get a scanning lab to do it for you. With even the smallest number of slides it takes a LOT of time, time you could be using taking photos! I used ScanCafe and even with my slides going to India, there were no problems. Good quality results, but there are other equally good labs out there. Forget that "scan at home" stuff, that is, if your time is important.
Just me but I would never rely on only one strap lug to support my DSLR. Considering the consequences of it breaking, it's an unacceptable risk.
Normally, I would buy from Adorama or B&H. I bought a Sony from 42nd because they had a significantly lower price. The rep was a little pushy but more than tolerable.
I fly domestic USA airlines a lot and carry both a laptop and an iPad. Only the laptop has to be placed in it's own bin. I've never been asked to do the same with my iPad.
Have fought 'em for a long time. Bird netting is the only thing that's worked for me.
Ok, anything to avoid waterboarding! It's Scancafe. Aaronwolf described it well except I think my slides were less than thirty cents each.
I have an Epson scanner with slide copy capability but quickly found out I didn't have time for that process. I turned to a commercial lab with great results at a reasonable price.
Creatures migrate for only one reason...better living conditions. The Oriole knows something. If only we could read it's mind. Great photography!
