I have come across four slides of an unusual design.
They are 2-1/2 by 1-11/16 inches. Image area is 2-3/16 by 1-5/8 inches.
The emulsion on one side is unprotected. Only a smooth piece of cardboard separates it from the next slide.

The common ones I am familiar with are about 3 inches square.

Is there a lantern made for these slides? Could these be part of a do-it-yourself kit?

Pictures follow.

The slides.

Thanks to all for your answers.

Perhaps it would be more clear if I described what I was trying to do.

I have a side mount Induro gimbel head. It has an ARCA plate for mounting equipment. I wish to mount a focusing rail on the gimbel head for ease of locating the subject of the photo. However, the ARCA plate on a side mount head is not lying flat with the ground but has one mounting grove above the other.

If a camera and focus rail were mounted on the side mount Gimbel this would put considerable stress on the focus rail in a direction it was not designed for.

I am looking for an ARCA bracket or adapter that would mount to the side mount gimbel ACRA clamp of the Induro head then go out then turn up and provide an ARCA clamp that I could mount the Focus rail on. This would make the focus rail flat with the ground.

I saw a link to such a device, but Have not been able to locate it again. Unfortunately the link seemed little off topic to the thread it in which it appeared.

A few days ago I read a message that had a link to a bracket with an acra clamp and either a plate or 1/4 20 hole on the other end. The bracket had a 90 degree hinge in the middle.

I wrote down the company on a piece of paper, but now I can't fine the paper or the topic on UH.

Help!

I just deleted some pictures I did not intend to.

Looked on Google for recovery software and found dozens.

I don't want to download something that sends a lot of other stuff with it.

Which program would you suggest. My card is a 16GB Delkin.

I use a TC (1.7 and 1.4) with my 300 f4 and 400 2.8 Nikon lenses. Does anyone know if the AF fine tune changes for a lens-camera combination when a teleconverter is used.

Any information appreciated.

looks like it is in the bleeding heart family. I looked it up and one of the names is "Squirrel Corn." Beautiful flower - great photo.

Thank you AuntieM for the quick response. I thought it was something like a Bleeding Heart. After your reply I looked up Squirrel Corn and there it was.

Thanks again.

Thanks to all for the useful information.

It seems I should keep using what I have.
Perhaps try the Tamron 150-600 when it comes out.

It will be a long time coming before I could afford a Nikon 200-400 or an f/4 Nikon telephoto prime.

I am considering buying an updated Nikon 80-400 mm lens.
I am presently using a Nikon 300 mm f/4 with a Nikon 1.7 tc.

I would probably use a Nikon 1.4 tc with the new lens.

The reach would be about the same but could I expect
better IQ and AF performance? Has anyone any experience with this combination.

Any experience with the 1.7 tc on this lens?

I am using a D7100 at present and only have AF problems
with poor lighting such as late in the evening.

Any one have the newest version of the 80-400 for sale?

My Nikon D7100 arrived the other day, and I anxiously popped off a few test shots, stuck the card into the reader, reader into the laptop, opened Lightroom to import photos, and....

Apparently the 7100 is not supported by either LR3. Or CS5 for that matter. And as I am on Windows XP, I cannot upgrade to LR4 or higher nor CS6 or higher.

As I await feedback from Adobe support, can anyone else offer a solution other than switching operating systems?

I had the same situation with my new D7100.

On the DVD that came with the D7100 install the program VIEWNX2 (VNX2) and view the files in the "film strip" at bottom.

select the RAW files you wish to open in CS5 and look at the upper center of the VNX2 window. Press the convert button and convert to TIFF.
Open CS5 and go to Open AS in the menu, select RAW as file type. click one of the TIFF files you converted.

It will open in ACR.

Given a lens with perfect MTF and a camera mounted to be stationary for the shot your subject resolution for a crop will depend on how many pixels wide your subject is on the sensor. If you blow it up to far you start loosing fine details and eventually get pixelation.
To correct this get a longer lens or get closer.

My ring flash just gave up. I need recommendations for a new (ring) flash.
I am using a D7100, Nikon 200 mm f/4 D, Nikon 105 mm f/2.8 G and a monopod.
Since I am chasing insects most of my shooting is either
hand held or Monopod and done out-doors.
Strictly speaking most of my macro is close up rather than
1:1.
So far I am considering the Sigma EM-140 DG and the Nikon R1 Wireless speed light kit.
Since I don't have a lot of time for set up and usually have to shoot quickly I would need TTL.

A quick question on flash specifications. If a flash is rated for 290 shots is that the life of the unit, a battery or what?
I realize things wear out, but 290 is unreasonable low for my use.
