Thanks, Earnest and suntouched.

suntouched, I'm not fond of the heat associated with the summer monsoons. I much prefer to photograph our winter storms. However, I'll take clouds anytime and just put up with the heat to get them. It's getting very close to the start of our summer thunderstorm season. So, afternoons are going to be photographically busy.

Like yourself, I used Adobe products from years ago. Yes, the Macromedia days. I forget the name of the program now, but I used something for website authoring/programming. I think it was Dreamweaver. Like yourself, also, my main workstation and personal server are both Fedora Linux boxes. I do have a couple of Windoze machines using 7 Ultimate due to the fact that I do need to use a couple of programs that only run in Windoze.

A few years back, I purchased a 27" iMac from a friend. This I found out, almost immediately, is based on Unix. I felt quite at home very quickly and enjoy using the system. Photo work, and related stuff is all that system is intended for.

As for Photoshop, it seems everyone who puts out a photo editing product compares it to Photoshop. So, why not get what everyone is striving to be? I'm not much for paying the fee but it is reasonable. That much I can appreciate.

I started buying Adobe products back when they were called Macromedia. I no longer have the latest versions of creative suite programs. I considered just using a completely different software since Adobe products do not work on Linux machines unless you run them in a box. Being that MS Windoze has never ever worked as promised even before Win95 and is without question the least secure operating system on earth, I considered using some of the "similar" products instead. But then there is a learning curve and nothing is quite the same even though similar and I am already familiar with Adobe products. So my question is "Are the Photoshop and Lightroom programs that are included in the cloud version of the Photography Plan the full versions with every capability of the legitimate version? Or are they vastly crippled for photographers? It's $120 a year which probably isn't any cheaper than buying the full program which you can control and be sure there will be no future price increases. I understand that by milking it for all they can, they have made hundreds of millions of dollars and I am all for free enterprise. By buying competing products and then shutting them down, they have controlled the market. This is not how the free market is supposed to work. So in your professional opinion, Is the Photography Plan still the way to go? Should I simply spend $10 a month until I find something better? Is there something better? Please feel free to elaborate on any point as I want to know.

Thanks for the comments, Dave. Yup, this one is the D700. The "stuff up the hill" is actually some visual landmarks that are part of Tempe. The A is for Arizona State. It is usually painted white, but Maroon and Gold being the school colors, gold shows up better on the butte. So, being part of the Tempe landscape, I'm comfortable with including it in the scene. It helps for locational purposes.

I'm with you on power poles, lines, and trees. It seems landscape architects never consider photographers when deciding where to plant trees. They always seem to be in the way of the best vantage points.

Very nice color work on the building Bob, with the D700.

If it were me I would have maybe moved the photo center down a bit to eliminate much of the stuff up the hill, but then I don't know what's not in the photo below on the sidewalk either (power lines and utility poles drive me crazy.)

Well, then, more like an optional delusion.

It's not an optical illusion. It is simply a crop.

You get exactly the same effect if you use a 50mm lens on a full frame camera and then crop 1/3 from each dimension of the resulting image.

The end result is as if you had used a 75mm lens in the first place.

When you crop an image you also reduce the effective DOF.

Thank you, John. It's not often I find a scene that I want to capture in color. This was definitely one.

Thanks, all. The product of a good bit of free time and my imagination. The bush to the right of the bug bush was the inspiration for this. Those three little branches hanging down caused me to imagine a bug. Then it was searching the web for an appropriately positioned insect and a bit of masking. A fun way to spend some time.

Nice photos. Your statement mentions country miles. How do those compare to the miles we drive? I'll bet it was uphill both ways, too.
