Check both ends of your lens. If they are clean try this:

- Open up a blank white screen on your computer. It could be a blank document in Wordpad or a totally white screen in Paint.

- Clean your monitor thoroughly to absolutely ensure that there is nothing on it like dust, specks, particles, etc. Otherwise this can flaw the integrity of the test.

- Set your camera to aperture priority and close the aperture down to F/22, and set your ISO to 100.

- Set your focus manually to infinity, and frame your shot to encompass the entire screen of your monitor.

- Take a picture of the screen, and take a look at the results. If you see specks as in the image above, then you have a dirty sensor.

Hoping someone on here is doing this and can advise what i need. I want to tether from my Canon 60-D to a monitor at a large shoot so they can see what their photo looks like immediately. My other option would be to a laptop and I could show 4-5 backgrounds they could choose from. If you know the cords etc it would require, I would appreciate the info.

With the 60D you can use the Eye-Fi card system or simply use the Canon EOS Utility software and the cord that came with the camera for free. Both are easy to look-up on Google so enjoy and be sure to post how it goes.

I shot a series of photos while on a hike today with a local club and when I arrived home was notified of an upcoming contest with a Spring theme. I have flower shots, but this one fascinates me and I wonder what you think of it. What does it say to you and would you submit it?

Not quite correct. Yes you will buy adapter rings for each size lense (at about 2 to 10 bucks a pop) but only one filter holder which will attach to said adapter ring on each lens. I prefer square to round for 'creative filters' such as ND or Graduated ND. I also have never found a round reverse graduated ND (somebody probably does make one though). If you go the filter holder route, you will still have a circular CP, but it fits the filter holder so you won't screw it onto the lens. With this solution, you only have one adapter per lens, all your filters fit all your lenses (with possible exceptions being extreme fisheye lenses which no filter will fit and extremely large aperture telephoto lenses which use internal filters). Buying a large round filter and using adapter rings works, but if you have a large filter (which presumably you would) and a small lense, you will need to use multiple adapter rings. This will work, but is a less 'elegant' solution. Also if you have a ring get stuck, you may not be able to use that filter until you get a filter wrench to remove it. Also, as you mentioned, the holder give you a little more creative freedom in your composition as you can move the filters up and down in the holder to adjust it's position in the frame. Something not possible with a round filter.
Not quite correct. Yes you will buy adapter ring... (show quote)

True again (I am SO glad I asked this question) and will probably be the way I go as it seem the most cost effective and convenient way! Thank you all!

Also, on the square ones...people that I have read about using them they sometimes just hold the filter in front of the lens with their free hand....no holder....it's faster that way.

...Stick with a large circular filter with step-down adapters, but use a square glass filter for GDs so you can move them up and down... I like that - thanks!

When I downloaded it, My Norton said it was UNSAFE! Be careful. Maybe I'm wrong.

I've had problems with Norton before and contacted the vendor only to have them say they are working with Norton to clear the issue. I'm not saying don't trust Norton, it's just that MS Security Essentials didn't say anything and it was presented by a respected website to the community. As always though download with caution.

Something I learned here too late: Buy a circular filter for your largest lens and then use step-up adaptors to use it on other lenses.

Thank JerryC41! I hadn't thought of that...but now that I'm thinking... I'm new - how do I plan for future lenes? laf

http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/exif-viewer-view-detailed-exif-data-of-image-files/

Exif or Exchangeable Image File Format is a standard that specifies the formats for images, sound and other important tags used by digital cameras, scanners and other systems, handling image and sound files recorded by digital cameras. You can view this meta data information in the default Windows properties of images and other files. However, if you want to view the meta data information of a large number of files, opening the properties of each one of them would not be an easy task. What you can do instead is use Exif Viewer. It is a powerful tool to view Exif data of files with an interface designed to let users easily navigate between all the options. Keep reading to find out more about Exif Viewer.

The main interface of the application has a folder tree in the left side, while the list of files containing Exif data appear on the right side. Select a file to view its thumbnail preview in the left bottom corner of the application. Exif Viewer has Name, Original Date, F-Number, Flash, Exposure and Orientation columns by default.

Exif Viewer works on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

I was ready to buy an assortment of filters ranging from UV, to Polarized and several Gradients then I came across a website that made me question - Circle or Square?

What do you use or recommend? Is it better to buy circle filters that screw on to your lens or square filters that fit in an adapter?

A screw on circle UV Filter makes sense for most days and gives me a sense of protection. For the rest I am lost.

Circle filters seem secure and easy to use, but you need to buy a new one for each size lens while square filters seem more cumbersome, but you buy one and you are done. Mostly I am stuck here - cost verse cost.

Also, how do you adjust a circle GD filter for a sunset? With the square you move it up and down... With a circle do you move the shot?

And while we are at it, if I go with the square filters for CP and GD then how do I adjust them independently or do I not use them together?

I think I understand filters, it’s the using them that I don't know yet. All opinions welcome!
