I did a comparison this morning. I have never posted a pic here before so this will test my ability to follow instructions. Images were hand held.

Once brain fog cleared I realized the focus point was not the same in that comparison, so I retook the test with a knot hole. This should be more definitive. Distance camera to knot hole is 50-60 feet. Don

Hello Fellow Hogs. I'm mightily tempted to supplement my T3i with a good bridge camera, mostly for travel purposes. I really love the specs on the FZ200 (especially the constant 2.8 aperture), but not sure I'll be happy with "only" 600mm zoom. Does anyone have any comments about the IQ on the FZ200 when going into the Intelligent Zoom range for the occasional long shot?

You note that you are interested in stacking so you’ll want to confirm the 7D-II has EFCS and it doesn’t have a "reset zing" like the 60D.
"reset zing?"

Thanks for this link. My father was a WWI vet and I remember the poppies being offered on the street corners every Armistice Day. Don

I have the FZ200 but have not used the iZoom. Project for today! I have been quite pleased with the camera overall. I use it for everything including macro (with a Canon 500D supplementary lens) My daily use is wildlife including BIF (still a challenge.) I have been considering adding a Canon sx50 for those times when I need 1200mm. Must try the FZ200 iZoom first i guess. Don

There is a "real time clock" battery. It's a large button battery easily spotted. After discharging your own static on the metal case you can pop it out (carefully, no metal probes) and check the voltage or just replace it with a new one. That has solved similar problems for me and is sooo simple. Don

HA! Just as I have also found to my surprise. The camera can do more than I can if I just "give it it's freedom." I have long avoided the highest ISO settings thinking the grain/noise would make it useless but was pleasantly surprised at what could actually be captured when the camera did the "thinking." Fabulous record of your visitor!

glad you mentioned that --have not set the upper limit with my Canon which would be smart to do

On my 60D I decided to use the max upper available and was again pleasantly surprised. Had read (possibly here) that it is better to have a sharp but grainy pic rather than a smooth fuzzy one. So I decided to try that out. With PP available I have gotten some photos that I'm happy to have that otherwise would have been missed. I don't have to please a picky editor other than myself. Don

The other day I accidentally put my d6 on auto ISO--it was rather interesting seeing the variations in lighting and the good results--any of you do that on a regular basis in low light and then use noise reduction in post processing (if too much noise is apparent). I thought with the high ISO available in newer cameras it might be worth a try--though I usually shoot , when ever I can, around 200-400 ISO

Yes, I have and was pleasantly surprised most of the time. Unfortunately my camera (FZ200) wont do "auto ISO" in manual mode. That is where I would like to see the result, when I set two parameters and the camera's "brain" picks the appropriate third! Maybe my next camera will. Don

I love the composition on all three. It looks like they were taken in broad daylight. That's why they're so contrasty. There's no detail in shadows whatsoever especially in the top image. There are large areas of total blackness. That is NOT appealing to me.
I'm disenchanted with a photo every time I see blown out highlights or totally dark shadows with no detail. The photos would have been a lot better if you had shot them under cloudy sky. clouds act as a giant umbrella that diffuses the light. good luck.

No.2 looks like cloudy bright to me. All are quite good. My eyes don't see detail in shadow at the same time as in highlights and these mirror what I see. I also enjoy probing what my eyes don't see using PP.

Thanks for a peep at fall colors! We'll see a few reds in February here in mid-Florida. Don
