Nice shot downing, do you know which spreadwing it is?
Sorry, I haven't gotten that far into Odonata.
Damselfly. Most Damselflies hold their wings together above their body when at rest. Only family Lestidae does not.
Equipment used for Close-up shooting in the field.
1. Nikon D500 camera, AF Micro Nikor 200 mm f4 lens, Nissin MF18 ring flash.
and a Peak Design shoulder strap. This is mounted on a Benro Carbon Fiber
monopod with a Ball head.
The weight of this set up is about 8 pounds. The 200 mm lens does not have
VR so it takes practice and sometimes several tries to get good shots.
I have used the Nikon 105 mm macro lens but it has too short working distance
for most bugs unless you are willing to crop more.
2. For subjects with limited movement the Monopod is replaced by a Manfroto
X55CXPROB carbon fiber tripod with an Induro GHB1 Side Kick Gimbal Head.
This weighs 6 pounds 9 Oz.
When not in use I leave the Tripod laying near by. When moving from one location to another I use the Tripod-Gimbal Head combo as a walking stick.
Jumping spider. Salticidae. Phidippus clarus.
The large female spider was first noticed. The male, smaller spider, entered later. The female left.
I knew she was there since I saw her leave the web.
I was using Auto ISO and did not set a limit. I have since set 4500 as a limit on ISO while in Auto ISO. The D500 has very good high ISO performance, but I have noticed with high magnification the noise affects sharpness.
At first I mistook this for an ant.
I was corrected shortly after posting it on Flickr.
Hemiptera nymph. Probably Hyalymenus tarsatus

Ailanthus Moth (Atteva aurea). I see a couple of these every year here in Cincinnati. I upgraded my D7100 with a D500, which I find better for Macro.
Nikon D500 at ISO 7200, with Nikkor 200 mm macro lens, and Nissin MF18 ringflash, 1/200-sec at f/16, on a Monopod.
I usually average about one Close up a day.
Here is todays close up.
Ailanthus webworm moth.
Atteva aurea.
Usually see one or two of these a year.
They are about 5/8 inch long.

I just got this lens and need a mounting rail. The foot has one hole.
I want to avoid the possibility of the lens rotating on the rail.
Does any one know of a rail that has a lip that abuts the end of the foot and has a mounting screw that would line up with the foot hole.
Any other way of getting a twist free setup?
Prefer ready made, don't want to do any drilling and taping
Thanks for your help.

I want to do Focus stacking in the field. I plan to use a Cam Ranger or similar. I don't have a phone so I need something with a reasonable size screen that runs windows.
It should have USB input that I can use as a viewer and controller.
I have an old laptop but its too big an klunky. Want something with a 6 by 8 screen or similar. Should be Cheaper than a fully functioning laptop.
Any Ideas or considerations in choosing something would be appreciated.
