Pretty.. I love those old cottages. I understand it is quite expensive to maintain those thatched roofs. The upper leaves on the left side of the photo made me wonder at first if this was a layered photo.... but perhaps that effect is from the f4 Aperature.. and a bit of wind. Either way, nicely done.

I don't have my D80 anymore to remember details, but go to the viewing menu in the camera and check the settings. It sounds like it is in there.
Is the menu showing all the time when you look at your photos?
This photo is a nice memory of your vacation, the water, the gulls, the sound of the waves, etc. I would have experimented more on the focus on the gull. As it is, nothing in the photo is really in a good focus.. so there is nothing for the eye to really go to. There could be some improvements in composition but I think playing with getting a good focus would be a start in improving it.
I own a 30mm Sigma and 50mm Sigma. I have been quite happy with mine, but neither are close to what you are interested in.
Welcome to UHH. I am also new here, and have been enjoying it immensely. I hope you enjoy it as well. I don't know the post you referenced, but I bet someone will be able to help you find it.
I like it, from where you chose to focus, the DOF, the textures and whatever 'effect' you may have done in pp, it works well.
Wow, Wow and again, WOW!!! That is an incredible photo. I could get lost in staring at it, OK, I did get lost in it. Fabulous!!!
That was wonderful. I took the "linked" trip and enjoyed very much. Thank you for taking the time to photo and document so well.
Welcome to the site from another newbie. I have found it, in a short amount of time, to be a great resource, even answering questions I didn't realize I had. :)
First of all, I loved the photos that accompanied the story. The conversation you relayed, I suspect you left her feeling more encouraged about her photography since was given positive words about her equipment, even if you were holding a Sony in your hands. :) I am right handed as well, but use left hand for focusing too. Not ambidextrous but apparently my left hand can turn a ring a little. :)
Nice shot. I like how the clouds cooperated a bit to help "frame" it.
I go with the rest of the gang here, but, not only would I clone out the car, and the other thing in the grass that is distracting, but I want to crop a bit of the right hand side of the photo off too. The tree on the left is not there in its entirety, so I want to remove some of the one on the right. NJFrank is right too, which one do you like the best?
Nice set, but I must say, I prefer number 2. It is unusual to see a tractor down on the beach, at least around here, and I love the composition, the evidence of his turn, etc. The first one, just does not quite talk to me, plus I want to adjust the horizontal line on it, whether or not it needs it. The last one, too much going on in it, my limited brain is confused by what to look at. So, after confessing my imbalance and limitations, thank you for sharing, they all make me want to be walking along the water there.
